Wintv-pvr-250 Driver Update

On page http://www.freytechnologies.com/support.html it says
Quote:
WINTV-PVR-250 DRIVER UPDATE: If you are experiencing audio/video issues when using your PVR-250 with SageTV, please update to the latest Driver available here.
This link points to 040910Retail1.18.021.22254.zip. I've looked on the Hauppauge site and I haven't found it.

I'm running a PVR-350 with TV-out. Do I need to install this new driver? I am having occasional hangs during playback, mostly when I skip around or at the end of playback.

I submitted a report to Frey and here's their response:

Currently there are some users that experience issues with the TV-out of the PVR-350. Hauppauge is aware of the problem and they are working on a fix for it. We don't have a time as to when they will release a fix for it.

One thing to try in the meantime is look for this line in your Sage.properties file, "mmc/encoders/-xxxxxxxx/never_stop_encoding=false". You should only have this line once since you are using only one capture card, but change it from false to true. Make sure that SageTV is closed during this process or the changes will not save. Run Sage and hopefully it will be a little more stable for you.

You might also try these drivers. http://www.shspvr.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5455 They are not official drivers but it has helped some users. Another thing that is not supported is the use of skins, but this skin in particular has helped some.

Thanks,

You are right ... It isn't on Hauppauge's site ... That being said, I made the update on my server per the instructions provided on the Sage Site ... So far it works fine for me ...

BTW, I have a PVR-250, but as I am sure you have already seen on Hauppauge's site that they usually use the same drivers for 250 and 350.

Since I had some downtime to play with I decided to rebuild the HTPC & I have used these drivers also, so far no problems *touch wood*

Interesting. I've got a similiar problem with my machine hanging after playback. When mine hangs, it maxes the CPU at 100%, and the offending process is "System" (read more in this thread: http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...&threadid=6896)

Are you seeing the same problem at the end of playback, or are they unrelated?

I tried this new driver release last night in the hopes it might fix my "crash at end of file" problem, however I didn't get as far as testing that because now I get the vertical colour bars on the 350 TV out unless a recording is actually playing (or paused). As soon as I stop playback, the vertical bars appear, rather than the OSD menus etc. Sage is working fine in the background - the normal Windows TV out shows the menus ok.

Anyone else had this? What can I do to fix it?

My install procedure was to run HWCLEAR, reboot, use the new driver INFs, then the latest driver exe & decoders from Hauppauge's site. Should I not have used HWCLEAR etc? Should I start from a baseline of the older drivers and just update drivers through the control panel using the new INFs?

I've seen mention of a registry setting to get rid of the colour bar problem, anyone know what this might be?

Cheers!

Barnaby

..

To get rid of the color bars I uninstalled the drivers without running hwclear and then reinstalled them and bars were gone.
But since I installed the new drivers I have a new problem If I let a recorded show play to the end sage locks up. I checked the cpu usage it looks fine. I never had this problem before. I have not had time to remove them to see if the problem goes away.
