Windows XP SP2 problems

I have several Clients running SP2 and in general have had no problems. On one client (my only wireless client) it creates a significant issue. Before installing SP2, everything was working fine and I created a restore point. After installation, Sage will not even startup. I get no splash screen, nothing. After restoring to the computer to before the installation, everything is fine again. This is not an immediate problem but eventually I would like to make my windows current. Does anyone have any ideas as to the cuase of this problem?

have you tried disabling the windows firewall in SP2?

First thing I did.

try connecting it wired then remove the wired connection after it starts
the first couple of times I tried wireless SageTV took forever to start

then I learned how crappy wireless was in my location
(fine for interent)
so I just went wired

Does that one machine have more than one item set up for networking?

I forget the term, but remember seeing something about XP cross linking (or trying to use) all the network links... which in turn causes some timeout problems if it tries to use the Ethernet or 1394 adaptors as well as the wireless one.

Might be something to check into if that machine also has an Ethernet adapter along with a wireless card.

you can disable the bridge if it trys to use both and you do not have good resolutes

just click on the bridged connection and disable the bridge
you can still use both though(wired and wireless)

Yah, that's the term I couldn't remember... that bridging stuff.

Another reason I don't like XP.... seems like I spend more time trying to figure out how to turn junk off that never should even be on by default. MS did enough of that stupid stuff in 98 already, but in XP there's a ton more of what I term "brain dead defaults".

Anyway, hope maybe that helps solve his problem with the wireless side.
