EPG update bug
Hi,
I think I found an EPG update bug. I'm using the XMLTV lineup. Sometimes, for a unknown reason, the EPG update fails and SageTV tells "next EPG update in 0 minutes". Once SageTV is in this state, it will not try to update EPG again. The only solution is to restart SageTV. I know the problem is not with XMLTV because the XML file is on the HD and is complete ... If think this should be a small bug like an unexpected exception that prevent the update counter to reset or simething like this ... Has anyone found a workaround to this problem ?

Yes, this is a bug. There are some discussions on this that I've posted in before. There really isn't a work around other than to just reboot the computer. The bug occurs when Sage tries to update itself when an Internet connection is not active.

And do you know when Frey will release a patch ? It seems a small bug and it should not be very difficult to fix it ...

No, I don't know. I actually have never reported the problem to Frey. You're right, it's probably just some small easy-to-fix bug, like the variable keeping track of whether an update has occurred being set to true even the though update does not succeed. This problem isn't really causing me too much trouble now which is why I haven't tried to get it taken care of. I have to reboot often when PVR-350 output lockups anyway. I will eventually report the bug if no one else does. I think the reason it hasn't been taken care of by Frey is that it doesn't effect too many people because most people probably have always-on Interenet connections.

Frey can't fix bugs if they aren't submitted to them... and they don't read all the posts on this forum. You can email them or go to:

Yeah, I should have submitted it a long time ago. Thanks for sending it in Nelis.

Good luck getting support on this one - if you are using XML plugin - please search in the international forums - it is not Frey that is the reply to my support request.
Can someone who is a bit more knowledgable than me reply on this? It is a bit crazy that the scheduling of the EPG update can be broken by a plugin. please please please. I missed all the things I wanted to record during my holiday because of this... Jan |

jhh,
The problem doesn't have anything to do with XMLTV. I have never used XMLTV with Sage, but I am affected by the bug. There is a new version of Sage coming out soon. Since the bug has been submitted, maybe it will be fixed in the new version. |
