Sage Client performance over wireless G
I finally decided to upgrade from b to g. With b, I couldn't use Sage Client because of massive stuttering. With g, I find that Sage Client works perfectly on my Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop. (Side note: everyone I have shown this to has been dumbfounded.
One problem, it only works perfectly if it is the only application that is hitting the laptop's wireless card (no email, no browser, no IM). If I have anything else open, I get an occasional stutter when the application access the network card. Nothing major, still watchable, but a little annoying. If I close all "networked" applications, it is fine and I can have apps like Word or Excel open. And it doesn't happen when I'm streaming mp3's from the Jukebox. So, finally, here is my question: Is anyone else using the Sage Client over wireless g? If so, have you had the same issues? Is there anything I can do to increase performance so I can eliminate the stutter if I have other network traffic? (Increase buffer or something along those lines?). The hardware on all my machines is Belkin High-Speed G and all report "excellent" signal strength. Thanks in advance!- |

Open regedit and check the BufferSize and NumBuffers keys under the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Frey Technologies\Common\DSFilters\MpegDeMux So far I kept my BufferSize at its initial size of 64KB, but moved the NumBuffers to 512(hex 200). This should improve things for you as it changes the buffer from 2MB to 32MB. You can play with the NumBuffers to tweak the amount of buffering. It may take a little longer to start playing a recording / Live TV as it has to fill the buffer before it starts to play, but it is worth it to not stutter. John

Perfect, thanks! Bumped up buffersize and numbuffer.
Now I have everything under the sun open and no stuttering at all! Even with buffer increased, it only takes about 3-4 seconds from "watch now" to the start of video playback. |
