XMLTV is working; Now which codec to use?

finally got it working, thanks to all above. changed the file to 1.xml and everything is tickety boo.
Did a recording last night however of law and order with setting at bets 3.0 gig an hour and on playback through TV using tv out on pvr 350 i get ghosting when people move about, everything was set at default, so that may be why, trying a differnt codec (powerdvd) see if that makes a differencve. Which codec do people recommend

I recomend the Nvidia decoder, however this is not for sale anywhere AFAIK. It only comes bundled with nvidia cards. Another good codec is the sonic decoder. I tend to find I get better results with VMR9 using DVXA hardware enabled.

check the forums as there are some extensive threads about decoders.

also check that you have de-interlacing set to bob and weave

If you are using the TV-out on the PVR350, the ghosting won't be coming from the codec as its using the PVR350's own hardware codec to display the video.

What does the video look like straight from your video card opposed to the PVR350's tvout ?

Ahh, of course. Sounds like an S-video lead issue. How long is it?

I have to say, I just bit the bullet and spent £50 on a 2m 'QED' s-vid to scart - and it does make a difference. The picture is much sharper and I even think that the colours are better.

the cable im using is about 3 metres, svideo from tv out to phono lead then other end is a scart adapter to connect to tv
i will try a different lead to check that out
so far sage tv seems to be the best choice out of all the differnet apps ive tried except maybe mythtv
just need a mame plugin and im complete :-P

How hot does your CPU run? I have built my first 3Ghz HT system for s friend, and the CPU likes to hang around the 60C mark.

Does it have the standard Intel heatsink and fan?

I did have issues with my setup when I got the case and CPU. I thought the whole thing was running a little warm.
After some extensive research into this, I ended up modding the case to add more fans. this seemed to do the trick - but the CPU has always been around the same sort of temp (55-62c). This is apparently within Intels specs. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the 'Prescott' can go up to about 70c.
I use the Zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu here:

I don't actually have the fan on full throttle, I have the Zalman 'FAN MATE 2' here:

I set this to about half way. I know I should get the CPU cooler to give it a longer life, but the PC never locks up and it's on pretty much 24/7.

I thought it would need a CPU heatsink upgrade.
So far the system has more fans in it than a thing with lots of fans in.

Will let you know what I get it down to.
