Encoding Server support in SageTV.exe

2.1.8RC5 announcement talks about Encoding Server support.

It says: this is if you want to use hardware that's not supported by SageTV Recorder.

Does anybody have more information on this feature?
Is this something that can be used to offer support for them HD cards?
