SageTV recordings and Theatertek 2.0.2.0

Is it possible to playback SageTV recordings in TT2 and have FFDShow do the regular post processing like a DVD?? I can playback recordings in TT2 with no problem but FFDShow does not kick in no matter what I try.

You can use ffdshow in Sage if you wish.

I thought FFDShow only worked with the elecard decoders - which I have no need for; having purchased the full Nvidia decoder package in TT2....

edit: Unless you mean that it can be used as the main decoder...which I don't want to do either.

FFDSHOW cannot be used to decode MPEG2 ever. However, choosing it in Sage as your decoder will load your default MPEG2 decoder and FFDSHOW. So if your last installed decoder was NVDVD it will use that.

Please excuse my ignorance, but I’m not too sure what ffdshow does.

Perfect - That's exactly what I was looking for. I didn't expect it to decode, I just want it in the chain when playing back the video stream so it does the post processing for resize and sharpen.

Now if I can figure out how to do this in Theatertek 2.0....

does sage + FFDSHOW + my default mpeg2 codec give a better picture than without FFDSHOW? I thought that FFDSHOW was only for DVD's??! My Hauppage 250 doesn't make the best captures and I'd love to improve the PQ.

Well I configured this last night and while it does get FFDShow in the chain, the deinterlacing of NVPP is not. I tried adding Descalers deinterlace filter to FFDShow (.dll plugin) but Sage kept crashing....sigh.

I don't think you can do both FFDSHOW and VPP in Sage. Also, I believe that VPP is only for film content and not video content. Have you heard it does anything for video?

The one thing you can try, is to select the nVVPP as the decoder, and default as the renderer, ffdshow should insert itself then. Oh, and the VPP is for everything, what it does is detect film content without relying on flags. In theory it could detect film content recorded by the 250. Not sure if it really works that way though.

Yes - I have a poorly flagged comedy DVD by Dane Cook and VPP makes it perfectly watchable. It is video based material.

Thanks Stanger89 - I'll give that a try.

I see. I forgot Sage plays DVD's too . I though you were setting this up for TV only since you had TT.

Actually I only use Sage for recording TV thus my lack of familiarity with it. I use TT2 for everything else, as I much perfer the transport functions and interface thus the reason I was originally asking if anyone knew how to get FFDShow in the chain when watching MPEG2 created by SageTV but played back in TT2. No matter what I try, I cannot get FFDShow to go when playing Sage videos in TT2.
