Can't connect via serial

I am using an RCA 435 RH and have beat my head aginst the wall trying to set up the serial connections. I thought I followed all intructions carefully, but am unable to get it to work. I downloaded trail Beyond TV and was able to control via serial through that program. I did encounter problems on the Beyond TV software and had to load a special DLL for the RCA to work properly. On their forums they said there was a problem with 435RH in that it would reset the box. I was wondering if anyone had a similar problem with Sage?
