any solution for this? line on side of 4:3 images
I recently completely canned the TiVO and moved my svideo ouput over to my 250 and Sage. I have a 16:9 TV and I like to watch 4:3 material with the bars left and right. However, since I switched to the svideo input from my cable box - I notice that my cable company is sending some oddly formatted stufff down the pike.
Sometimes 4:3 material is slightly smaller than the 4:3 image (black borders) and sometimes its top right justified and has some black space on the left and bottom only. Sometimes its just the left side. BUT the worst is when the image is almsot perfectly 4:3 but there is a pronounced white line on the left side of the screen. I worry about burn-in and its ugly. It moves with the aspect ratio settings/zoom settings so beyond zooming in 16:9 mode or Fill mode and distorting the picture (and hence moving the line offscreen) Sage controls don't make a difference. Anyone have any idea on how to get rid of this line beyond switching back to a RF input pre-cable box? Thanks! |

you need to use the overscan settings
to hide what the TV normally hides |

how? on a 16:9 tv displaying 4:3 material - changing the aspect ratio settings simply moves the line over and distorts the picture. On a 4:3 tv - its easy to expand the picture 2% and hide the line but on a 16:9...

why not display the media at 16x9 ?
why show it at 4x3 on a 16x9 TV? |

Ok, if you change the overscan settings, it should get rid of the lines, even on a 16x9 TV as long as you have your aspect ratio setting set to 4x3 (not source). I had a similar situation, and this worked for me, but YMMV.
Also, if you are worried about burn in (as am I), you could also set "Video Orbiting Duration" to something like 5 minutes. It shifts the 4x3 image across the 16x9 TV so as to avoid "reverse burnin". However, the middle section of the screen will be the only part that is never black, so it's not perfect, but it is the best you can do. I've have my TV for about 2 years now and I see no issues on the screen. Enjoy! -Beef |

I guess the real issue is that if I set it to 4:3 instead of source - then I need to constantly change back and forth depending on whether I am watching imporeted 16:9 vides or 4:3 TV stuff - an auto switch of the aspect based on source would be ideal. |
