Trial Run

I'm currently trying out sage tv for the first time. I am thinking about buying it so I wanted to post my thoughts on it so I can get some feedback from everyone.

I have already tried many programs (ATI, myHTPC, Meedio, BTV) but still haven't found the perfect solution. I just bought a pvr 150 just so I can try out sage. As far as I know, MCE and Sage are currently the only all in one solutions (for pvr + media) (I know Beyond media and Meedio tv are coming). I like sage because it seems like a very solid program and everything is well integrated. But my main problem is the interface is not user friendly. I am willing to learn a new system but this one is complex unnecessarily. I found the sagemc stv on this site by mlbdude which is excellent. However, I feel the program should be better "out of the box" instead of having to depend on end users to make it better.

thanks
-g

Welcome to the forum, g.

I happen to like the Maldude2 STV best, and don't really care what the program is like 'out-of-the-box', but rather, how it performs once I've tweaked to the best of my time/ability. I want stable and full-featured, so I don't have to go resorting to a keyboard and/or mouse to use the system. SageTV is the best out there for my PVR needs, though at present I use different apps for DVD playback and music.

Different strokes for different folks!

g,

I agree\disagree somewhat. If you do not want to add more functionality than what is "out of the box" you don't have to. Sage works great "out of the box" , with some initial setup of course...

Although once you get a glimpse of what some of the custom ones have in them, you may end up modifying yours....be warned, it's an addiction that seriuosly irritates the spouse...

Have Fun
