Call me stupid, but I find this stuff difficult unless I have step by step instructions that don't involve changing much. It needs to be OUT OF THE BOX 16x9 or give us STUDIO like we were promised with some instructions on how to do it.

Its a little more than just changing the width and such of certain things.
This is what you said in another thread. You are afraid to make small changes to a text file but you are willing to create your entire own interface?? This makes no sense to me.

I would like to see stv's finished instead of works in progress trying to put in the kitchen sink (can't wait for SageMC stv to be complete). It's nice to be able to check the weather, showtimes, wifes menstruel cycle via sage, but not necessary, to keep having to update the stv's in current cirrculation.
If someone would finish a nice skin (SageMC is on target so far) to it's completion, I wouldn't need studio. But there are a handful of studio developers that are creating stv's that are incomplete or are buggy to where the stv is really unstable. Meedio has several skins (completed with loads of plugins) developed by users using thier free Theme Designer. These are nice as they are complete. I am sure it is difficult to make the time to spend to get the stv's nice and packaged for others, but rememer they are beta testing the software and giving us the results of their beta test labor.

I am using meedio as a front end end the default stv2 for tv, guide, and recorded shows.

Yes they said it would be in Sage2, it wasn't and people are upset. No use crying over spilled milk.... or is it....The squeaky wheel gets the oil.......

I personally didn't really care for Studio, however I kept seeing things posted about how Frey is concentrating on Studio to get it out and how amazed we would be when it came out. 2.1 is a bit more unstable for me, and I have full access to MCE2005. I think the more disturbing thing to me is the communication here has gone to extremely sub-standard, and when I had signed on for this, I was under the impression that while SAge needed work, the communication was outstanding, and that Frey would do what was necessary to take care of its users. The issues I have seen here the last several months have been pretty bad in my opinion...The PVR350 issue that still stands, the Roslyn issue (which I own one, dammit), and now the Studio vaporware.

vaporware

/vay'pr-weir/ n. Products announced far in advance
of any release (which may or may not actually take place)

Studio is now officially vaporware. Promised back in 2003, and now MIGHT happen in 2005, Its not quite on the level of Daikatana, but its starting to look pretty bad. Whatever. My sympathies to those that bought in because of that promise. I have a spare hard drive now for an OS Drive which I'm going to test out 2 or 3 other PVRs this month. I'm damned curious about MCE 2005 now.

I hate blindly following tweaks without knowing or gaining any knowledge in the process.

I don't know if I COULD create my own interface, but it's what I wanted to do and why I bought SAGE to begin with. I should be at least able to try.

I just installed the newest skin to SAGE 2.1, I have no clue how to adjust or change half the stuff.....because it's not mine. I have no idea how to remove the stuff I feel is redundant and non-usful for me.

I'm not afraid, but when things go bad, then it's a PIA to recover.

I've been using Malore's STV for a LONG time and it's been nothing but stable (and "complete") for me. Are there things I still wish it had (read: that I could do myself)? Yes...like a freaking right click context menu that gives me something other than the stupid video background option. All I want is to be able to right click on a show and select "record," "delete," "set watched," etc, but no one seems to be willing/able to do it...thus Studio would be great. BUT, for all that, Malore's STV works quite well for me and I think it's been complete for some time (one of the first)...others just keep tweaking is all.

Dan, Thanks for the update. It certainly isn't what I wanted to hear but at least I know where studio stands.

I purchased SageTV because of three things; the awesome user community which you guys actively took part in, the promise of studio and because it was the only PVR (that I had seen back then) that could be tweaked and played with. I'm not angry, PO'ed or frustrated but I will be looking for other options now. I'm not going to get into all of the you promised this or that stuff, the previous posts handle that quite well. I understand that you have to make decisions based on what is best for your business. I sincerely wish you luck.

To all of the folks who have helped me on this forum and that make their hard work available with their STV's, Thank You! You guys ROCK! The ONLY reason that I don't throw Sage TV out the door is because of you. Hopefully everyone will get the chance to contribute someday.

Talking Just a thought.......

I'm willing to bet there will be no STUDIO release next year. PERIOD.

In light of new STV's like CAYARS, ( ) I figure he is headed in the right direction and SAGE will follow.

STUDIO will evolve into SAGE V 3.0 and the default interface will be a refined version of Cayars that allows users to "right click" and select and deselect menu items and such.

It's the version a noobie can work with...even me! Over the last few days, I've gotten use to the interface and have bravely removed menu items without so much as a whine and am happy.

Wait and see......SAGE3.0 will have a fully customizable interface out of the box.....WITH DOCUMENTATION (HINT HINT) and a MANUAL!!

Of course I hope it's a free upgrade for us who were sold this product on the basis of configurbility. (AKA STUDIO!!!)

Did I get it right Jeff, Dan??

I believe quite a few were sold it with the promise of free lifetime upgrades as well.

Eitherway, this is how rumors get started so I am guessing you probably should be more careful in the future.

Eitherway...I should be more careful?? Who do you think you are? MY MOM? It's an OPINION and I can express it any way I want to.

I never said it was gonna be a charge for 3.0 did I?

For the official word on SageTV upgrades... read the Sage Faq
Quote:
What is the upgrade policy for all SageTV applications?
We will do our best to provide upgrades at no additional cost to our current customers.
I guess they can say no more than that for commercial reasons...

Robert, haven't you learned. I know everything... or just about.

With that said: Neilm, I was commenting about something from a while back. For the record, the FAQ used to read:

Quote:
Are future upgrades included with a licensed version of SageTV or the SageTV Client?

Yes, all future upgrades will be free with a licensed version of either application.
(note)

It was changed (I believe) when the website went through an overhaul in April.

But there is no need to have another "Brawl" about it.

really doubt this
LOL
but you called that one right
Frey came to forum so many times telling the members here how
studio was so great and that when 2.0 was released
we could all use it
and even when 2.0 came out
they said just wait a little longer
well some people are bailing on them already
but frey got their money first

I think some of us feel lied to more than anything

I was not even paying attention to your coments
only saying that Brett was right about saying that Sage would never gives us Studio
and next year is BS

he said this a year ago
and all the members crucified him for it

I was new
and wondered what the big deal was
thats all

thats why it was brett's brawl and he won
cause he was right
ok???

my goodness. this thread is still going. i'm just sneaking a peek again at this thread and saw how my post with my opinion about OEMs in a now old post got shot down by whoever. oh well so what. anyways, there's still no studio for mere consumers. i appreciate reading posts by various people as to what frey's OEM opportunties may be including the post by lucas http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...8&postcount=91 about the separation between the UI and the SageTV core - that was a very astute observation. you can plainly imagine where frey is going with sagetv with possible parallel paths with sales to consumers and sales to OEMs. you can see the OEM business model with PCs becoming cheap commodity products where media center-type PCs may eventually become cheaper to make, the folks at Frey could make a killing by selling studio (probably as a highly-priced SDK) along side the sagetv core software as an excellent (no-DRM?) alternative instead of using MCE to PC makers and assemblers for their PCs. in the next few years, this argument over studio may transform into OEMs battling each other in the marketplace competing on the basis of how well they can customize SageTV where those different interfaces may all be built by OEM-only versions of Studio. meanwhile, consumers may be arguing whether the interface provided by one particular OEM is better than that provided by another OEM while wishing that mere consumers can somehow get an OEM copy of studio. (...and then someone like Newegg starts selling Studio but at a high price and you also have to buy a copy of the SageTV core plus maybe a new TV Tuner card also in order for the OEM sale to be legal....) anyways, this thread keeps going and going and going. just shows how personally invested people are in sagetv whether with or without studio. just my opinion.

Your not kidding. Reading all this non-sense, you'd think there was a conspiracy going on or something.

I doubt if there is an actual conspiracy going on. However, I am certain there is a lot of wheeling and dealing going on in the background that we are not aware of. Of course, that's true of just about every company, so nothing really new there.
