Hello there
Im having trouble getting my new Plextor pvr working at all. Im only getting "noise" from within SAGE v. 2.2.2, but the thing works great in the WinDvr software when tuning channels. Im using it without the EPG, with antenne signal in Denmark. I allready did a fresh sage install ..... Please help ... anyone .... regards Jacob just/Denmark |

Did you check the Input Type and Cable/Antenna options in Setup?

Jacob, you may need to reset the UHF frequencies in the registry.
Do a search for freqcopy and you will find some threads on what needs to be done. |

Sorry for the late answer back, but i have been away for the holiday.
I have been looking into the thing about the freq reset, but i dont like the idea. I have the H. PVR-350 with XMLTV EPG allready with Dscaler Decoder and Cayars STV 16 - and the thing rocks. I would like to use the Plextor as my second tuner so that my recordings dont fill up my storage so fast. Any idea how to get SAGE to support the Plextor in Europe ? I use it in a PAL environment if that means anything. Regards /Jacob Just-Denmark |

I tried the little tool from plextor and it works just fine.
Tuning works great in the app. but when i go back to Sage there is still only "noise". It seems though that when i go to a channel i know should tune - it looks just a little different (seems like a kind of other static). Anything i can do ? - and greetings back from Denmark |

In the setup wizard, did you double-check the source? Make sure you select Tuner and in the antenna/cable select antenna..

I understand that you are using the PAL version of the Plextor unit. Since it is available since only a couple of days, as I understand it, I think you are the first Sage user with it.

I understand that im one of the first to use the PAL version.
But i was looking forward to using the unit with my dream software Sage, since i saw that Sage support the Plextor unit. It also looks like it keeps getting stock with NTSC tuning when i try to use it in sage. Also every time i go into the GoCap tool it starts with NTSC tuning as default, never the less i changed and applied the changes. I'm using the newest version of driver for the unit (v. 2.22c) Is there hope for my Plextor PAL version with Sage ? Jacob Just |

Have you checked with Frey's tech support (see the link in my sig lines) to see what they had to say about using the Plextor with PAL?

Did you check the sage.properties file to see the country code is correct. mmc/country=Denmark mmc/country_code=45 mmc/video_format_code=8 You could change the country code to another and see what happens to the tuning I have a PV358T which is the same as a plextor and it works well in SageTV. The GoCap application always starts in NTSC.

(I do not own the Plextor unit, but I hope to get one soon.)
Earlier in the Autumn, I asked Sage support whether the PAL version would work, and I got the vague answer "It should work". /Per |

Static on the picture
I've had the same issue on an American version (NTSC) unit.
The Plextor PX-TV402U unit only showed static on the TV tuner part. I uninstalled it, rebooted, went into SageTV, back out, stopped the SageTV service, added the Plextor, rebooted, all was fine. But ... when I added a second unit, some of my recordings only had static. The same procedure above fixed that issue, but I couldn't get two units to record in DIVX even when I specified it ... they would only record in best. I'm still experimenting ...

Two ConvertX PX-TV402U's
Yes, I have two ConvertX PX-TV402U's at the Denver location (I have Comcast Cable there and can use the TV tuner). Here is Los Angeles, I use Direct-TV ... and bought a ConvertX PX-M402U. I've only been back in town for a couple of days, so I haven't set my system up yet ... and probably won't until this weekend. I would like to get another Direct-TV box and another ConvertX PX-M402U once I know the first one works okay ... but I'm worried about the non-DIVX recording if I buy yet another unit. I like having an external unit doing the processing ... plus the smaller file sizes (about half - although I haven't had time to compare the video quality to the MPEG2 modes)

I've just installed the Plextor PX-TV402U and I temporarily removed my PVR-250 from SageTV to simplify things. However while I get live TV fine with the 402U, and all the channel-changing functions etc work, divx recordings don't so far. First, I was under the impression that SageTV records divx in an mpg envelope which it then changes to avi at the end of a recording session, but that if the the recording isn't actually being viewed while recording, will record in an avi container directly. Doesn't seem to be happening.
The first test consisted of recording in what was ostensibly best Divx quality (Home Theater) 15 minutes of a TV show. In the recordings directory, an mpg file appeared and grew. When the recording was finished, a temp file appeared and SageTV began to use about 50-75% of CPU (P2.8 HT, 1 Gig fast ddr). This for 20 minutes - longer than the recording itself - without any of the files changing in any way. I rebooted. Second test consisted of another 15 minutes, this time I put SageTV in sleep mode immediately after scheduling the recording, about 5 mins before the start. The whole thing proceded nicely but at the end, only an mpg file was visible, one that would not play in vlc - just the sound. Gspot says it's an mpeg 2 file. Still experimenting. Only got the 402U about an hour ago. Nex PS I'm still using 2.1 |

If mmc/enable_mpeg4_timeshifting=true is set, DivX/MPEG4 recordings will always be stored in an MPEG2 wrapper until the recording is over. At one point, you had to also install the WinDVD Creator software on the Plextor CD in order for the files to be unwrapped. I think this was changed for v2.2 so that it no longer requires that additional installation. You could either install WinDVD Creator or use SageTV v2.2.
