Conflict with nero recode

While trying to create a dvd, (a 12 hour process), don't ask, I put sage to sleep and went to the store. When i returned i woke sage and attempted to start viewing a recorded program. I was greeted with garbled graphics on the menus and the error -4 message. I had to terminate my nero recode application in order to restore sage functionality. I tested this a few times and found that if recode is active and sage is put into sleep mode the error -4 message returns every time. This is a huge problem. If anyone has suggestions I am all ears.

system specs:
CPU: p4 2.8c HT
MOBO: msi 875p neo fis2r
RAM: 1gb ddr400 kingston
HDD: 4 seagate 80gb drives st380013as two raid-0 arrays
VIDEO: leadtek geforce 4 ti 4200 128mb
CAPTURE: hauppauge pvr 150
OS: windows xp pro service pack 2
SOUND: audigy 2 platinum
DVD: sony dru-510a dvd+-r drive

If you need/want any further system info just ask.

Thanks
Sarlac

Well, we have pretty similar systems, but I haven't had this problem. Do you have the latest (December 04) updates for Nero? Are any of the video files involved in the import/recode process in a Sage Video or Archive folder?

yes nero is up to date and yes the files are in an imported video folder. I'll have to try with them NOT in an import folder.

I did have this problem (error -4) once before though a few days ago and it resulted in total loss of all media playback. That time i was not using nero. I had to do a restore point to get it back. "plug and play software device enumerator" was buggered.

This error seems to be somehow related to the sleep function of the sage client.

It almost sounds to me like their is a conflict with DirectX -- does nero use DirectX? Do you have 3D Acceleration turned on in SageTV? If you disable that, do the menus get drawn correctly?

i dont know if nero uses directx
yes i have 3d acceleration enabled
ill try that

the fact that teh menus are drawn funny is the small part of the problem. That comes with the video exception (error -4) and i cant playback any videos at all.
some part of sage is causing a system wide error. I have had this problem with and without nero but it is only reliably repeatable while using recode
