Above Normal Priority
ok what is everyone that uses above normal proirity for SageTV doing to make SageTV start with above normal priority
I have wondered since 2.0 early beta why SageTV is not using above normal SageTV is suppose to be on a dedicated box well then why not use it but to get to my point I was really having major issues with VMR9 and the nvidia decoders and I finally thought of changing the priority I did this in the past but it had been a while so I set the priority to above normal and guess what perfect picture with no stuttering or skipping or tearing using pixel adaptive, VMR9, smart deinterlacing, pure video etc.... and perfect so my question is how can I get SageTV to start with above normal priority rather than having to set it everytime I open up SageTV or reboot? |

How do you set above normal priority??
sounds very intresting and best wishes for 2005 |

yeah you too
just open the task manager and right click the SageTV process and goto set priority then choose above normal it will ask if you want to change and choose yes and this is still not completely perfect but the change from you do not have one minute much less 10 seconds with a stutter to only a rare stutter if anything is amazing to me (have not tested with liveTV yet, so this may differ) I still do not understand why they choose normal priority with SageTV designed to be a stand alone dedicated machine they have all these other desires to make it so timeshifting has to be enabled no software encoding TV tuner cards yet something that makes such a huge performance increase is not done WOW |

ok solved my own problem
and here it is for anyone that wants first you need to set SageTV to startup no in the detailed setup then add the SageTV.bat file to the frey technology folder and add the SageTV shortcut included to the startup folder in the start menu next time you boot up it will start from the task bar with above normal priority EDIT: OK I thought it started in the taskbar but maybe not anyone want to help me out here? Kny how about you just let Sage start the way it used to and have a scheduled task to run this utility which allows you to change running tasks' priorities
http://www.beyondlogic.org/solutions...rocessutil.htm BTW: are you running the SageTVService? |

no, not running as service
and this program works but it is picky it makes me put in my C:\ drive and cannot put it in the SageTV folder (it will not work if I do this) then I cannot get the stupid DOS window to stop popping up with it but this what I got put the process program in your C:\ drive put the SageTV.bat in the Frey Tech folder and the SageTV shortcut in the startup menu in the start menu set SageTV to startup in taskbar and then with this it will start with above normal priority in the taskbar any other ideas??? |

Oh and here is another cool little app to start an exe with a certain priority:

I set my Priority manually to High. I do not use my SageTV System as a dedicated HTPC so it is required to prevent most of the recording problems, but Jeff still needs to fix an issue where recordings will get skipped frames if too many SageTVClients are doing things at the same time and also it is imapcted by the two copies of SageTVClient for my MediaMVPs running on the same BOX (I Make sure these are at normal priority). This will not happen unless you record at Best Quality or greater. SageTV 2.0.20 did not have as many issues with the recordings not being stored correctly. What ever changed in the later releases has made it much less reliable at recording files. Frankly I think that SageTV needs to be more like GBPVR and BeyondTV with a seperate process for doing recordings only that way it can run at High or realtime priority and scheduling and client activity and anything else on the PC will not prevent recordings.
NOTE: I have these problems some times even if nothing else is running and I am not using the PC, just letting SageTV record. John

jptaz,
Are you running Sage as a service? If you are and you are giving SageTV.exe high priority then that could screw up your recordings. If you aren't running as a service I would recommend doing so and upgrading to the latest beta since it had some threading enhancements done to it. |

I am running SageTV beta 2.2.2 and the service still has the issue whcih is why I have it running as an application. SageTVService is still running at normal priority so any other application in the system can pre empt it, like the two instances of SageTVClient for the MediaMVPs, or even the SagTV GUI instance.
The other products ONLY have recordings in the service. SageTV performs, scheduling, and client communications in the service so when heavy client activity on the same PC or even on the other two client PCs occur they prevent data from being stored before the buffers are recycled by the encoding card drivers. So I could have 5 clients communicating at the same time (3 on the same PC). John

I know this is an old thread, but I have a question about it that you all might be able to help with. I don't run a dedicated Sage system, though I do keep other processes down when "Saging". Here's my question. If I change the service to high priority, but keep sagetv at normal priority, will that cause problems? Or should I put both at high priority?
Also, when I try to change priority for service, I get an error saying "The operation could not be completed. Access is denied." Anyone seen this before? I am full (sole) administrator. |

Are you trying to solve a problem by increasing the priority of the service? Unless it solves a particular problem, I'd leave it where it is.

Yeah, I'm trying to get rid of some glitchy-ness in recordings. I'm not as concerned with the client as I am with the recordings (as long as the source is OK, playback should be fine at some point, with nothing else running on the machine at the time, etc.). That's why I want to increase the priority of the service and not necessarily the client.

No one has any thoughts/suggestions on this?
I can easily live with changing the priority of both, but it's SO FRUSTRATING that task manager won't let me change the priority of service. |
