need to install redist. directx 9.0c? look here
ok all you need to do is download directx 9.0c
and replace the attached dll with the one in the redist package for some reason you cannot install the directx9 redist update if you have already installed SP2 for windows this version of directx9.0c has the older quartz.dll that was causing issues with fast fowarding and probably some other updates this does not effect the install in any way |

Is this for installing the full 9.0c?? Because I would have though it was for the december update from the other thread... But when I tried it with that update it skips past still...

if you download redist. directx9 c and exact all the files
then download my file attached above then replace my file included with the one exacted from directx9c redist. then it will not skip past anymore http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en then exact all files with winrar http://www.download.com/WinRAR/3000-...=dl&tag=button then use my dll included by overwriting the new included with directx9c and you can install it |

I just tried this and it still skips... I did notice that that redistributable has the larger quartz.dll file, so I guess if I could get it to install it would work.
Any other ideas? |

yeah as long as you still have everything from last night
try using the dxsetup as well as the file from the first post and overwriting the files included with the redist. directx9.0c if that still does not work try the second dll included in this post as well the dxsetup and other dll from first post I am not sure why it worked for me so easily but this should do it if you need any clarification just ask |

Thanks for trying but it's still a no go... same old thing happens. You gotta wonder why they make this so difficult...

damn you are right I cannot get anything to work now either
I have tried to install it over the top of my current install and it would not what a PITA funny thing was I was sure this would work I was trying to use a program last night to allow the install of any version of directx DirectX Eradicator Quote:
it instead uninstalled my version of directx9.0c thats all but I could not install the new updated version so I finally tried changing out the first attachment file listed and then I could install directx9.0c redist I am not sure why it is such a pain to install the update maybe I should contact M$ about this this seems stupid to need to uninstall it first but I thought it would not be limited to my issue and sorry about that |

So if we are runnning SP1 and installed the DirectX 9.0c redist (I have no issues with installing this on SP1), we need or do not need your DLL?

And what is fix2 for? Which one is the one we need?

Apparently the latest downloadable Microsoft Directx 9.0c Redistributable already has the proper quartz.dll.
So If you just downloaded it, then I believe you are good to go... My problem is I'm using Windows XP SP2 install cd, so I'm outta luck... The proper quartz.dll is around 1.8 kb and the bad quartz.dll is around 1.2 kb |

Ok... thnks!
I was having some other issues with Sage 2.2.2 causing terribly jerky motion with Moonlight Decoders, so I was wondering if this could be related. I guess I'll just move onto NVidia permanently to avoid that. |

The symptoms of the quartz related problem could easily be describe as jerky motion. It's almost like it's dropping frames or something. Useually it goes away with a couple ff or rw key presses.

I've gotten a little confused about all this as well.
So, is it that MS has a later version of DX 9.0c that is different than earlier versions of DX9.0c? Seems not too smart not to increment the letter rev. at least. And this better version won't install over systems already at DX9.0c level? Or is it that there is a different DX 9.0c install of quartz.dll for XP-SP1 vs. XP-SP2 which turns out not to be better? Or is it ... I give up. To make matters more confusing, I was looking at my SoundStorm Mixer system information dialog box and it reports DX 9.0d. Sheesh. Anyway, my "quartz.dll" is 1,962,496 bytes which I take to be a good thing and will let it go at that. DFA

Just curious, what are the versions?
eg, I just checked my HTPC (with a windows update SP2 install) and it's got a 1.22MB quartz.dll and the version is reported as 6.5.2600.2180 |

The latest release of directx 9.0c contains version 6.5.1.902, which was the previous version included with 9.0b

Thats the verison I have... And I have seen it at 2 different sizes (1.75MB from my 9.0b .cab file) and 1.87MB (from my redist 9.0c .cab file). I read that there might be a problem between my SiS chipset and the 6600GT AGP Card. The funny thing is it goes away after I close and reload Sage. The other funny thing is that I can get ok performance with Sage 2.1.10... So, I am not sure if it is Sage or the chipset...

My version of "quartz.dll" is 6.5.1.902. I am at DX9.0c and XP-SP1. I had done a "refresh" install of DX9.0c about a couple of months ago. Not sure why I have the "good" 9.0c instead of the "bad" 9.0c but will stay put. Very strange thing MS is doing with this. I think I'll dub it "MSteries of the Quartz".

That's weird, I find that the 9.0b version is 1.87 and the newer 9.0c version has a 1.75 size... Did you try the nvidia decoder? I thought it was supposed to work very well with your card... If the problem goes away after a relaunch then I doubt it's your chipset.

Well Windows XP takes on the version 2180 once SP2 is installed and the quartz.dll version your are left with is 6.5.2600.2180. So I'd say it has more to do with the combination of SP2 and Directx 9.0c
Either way someone at Microsoft need to get there sh@t together and give us 9.1 already. Maybe they'll impliment a proper way of rending the video so all these different issues get resolved. I know, now I'm dreaming... |

This whole business needs clarification. What I'm getting out of this at least this much is that SP2 for XP seems to replace the quartz.dll with something other than what DX9.0c installs. Furthermore, MS may have made a substitution of the quartz.dll in the DX9.0c package somewhere along the line. Is that the gist?
