I have a Theater 550 Pro Card

I have a Theater 550 Pro card and am being forced to use the Power Cinema to do pvr at this time. Please Sage TV make a compatable interface for this card. I love the card but cant stand the software.

Theater 550Pro PCI-E

Know when the PCI-E version will be made available?

No i dont know when the PCI-E Version will be out but I will get one of those also when it does. Power Cinema blows worse than i thought it did. Found out yesterday I cant specify what Directory or hard drive it records its video too. It always goes to the mydocs\user\my videos\ dirctory so C:. That is lame. It sure does look pretty though but the other poster is right it does take a couple of seconds for the channel to change.

Ever since I discovered out how much smoother this card is compared to my pvr 250 in fast action sports, I've become less happy with my Sage/pvr250 setup.

*pleads for Sage support*

Why don't you try the Universal network encoder. With that and the information from the SHS Graph you should be able to use it with Sage.

Wouldn't they have the same problem as the people using UNE to get the Fusion HDTV to work? There's no way to change channels.

When is sage going to support this? It has been a long time, and beyondtv sucks.

I just think beyond Tv is clunky bloatware. IT causesa memory leak when running zone alarm, takes forever to shut down etc. It just feels like a sloppy job was done with it. (I have a very fast system) I was unimpressed with it. Would love to try sage, if they can get their act together.

Usually it is best practice to pick the software you prefer before purchasing the hardware. From the screenshots that SHS had provided of the Elite I don't see anything that would make me choose it over the very well supported hauppauge PVR 250.

There nothing really pointing to Sage ever supporting the Elite, so I wouldn't be waiting around for it. Who knows though, it could be around the corner. Has there been any word from them?

I just don't think they'd be in any serious rush for it.

Just exchange it for a 250 and be up and running now.

Nah, I dont want a PVR. The 550 chip is new, it's drivers are new etc. The happauge may be well supported, but that is because it is so old. The 550 will mature, and may offer better performance down the road, while the pvr series is at the end of the line. It works fine with beyond TV, I just would like to try sage. I would rather have the elite and beyond, than sage and a pvr 250 or 150. The 250 may be stable and well supported, but it's also at the end of it's life span, and I would prefer to keep something new that has potential.

But what if you are already using the pvr 250 and sage but bought the sapphire 550pro just to play with latest hardware. I did, and the difference that I see aren't in the screenshots. When recording fast actions sports, the 550 pro is A LOT smoother. The difference is very noticeable either outputing to a regular tv or to a hdtv.

I would imagine that since they support most other hardware capture cards that eventually they will support the Elite.

I would just think that it's better to be using Sage now that not using it at all... So if you've got the elite as an additional tuner then I guess it's a matter of time before it makes it into Sage.

Besides fast action sports, is there any other opinion on the card you'd like to share. I'm not sure those screen shots do it justice, how would you compare it to the 250 on regular shows?

Picture quality wise, the difference isn't much, nothing a little tweaking wouldn't tip each over the other. The only thing might be that the 550pro's picture is just a touch softer, and the sound volume lower, out of the box.

The thing is, now that I know about the difference in smoothness, I pay attention to it more, and not just in fast action... also in fast or long panning or fast scene switching. And I'm starting to spot differences there too. I was happy with my Sage/two pvr250 setup before.

But now I'm hoping that I'll be able to put two 550pro into my sage box, move one of the pvr250 down to 3rd in merit, and put the other pvr250 (I only have 4 pci slot, and I'm keeping the last slot for maybe a HD-QAM tuner) into my gaming box for just tv viewing.

I noticed that my PVR 500MCE is much better in terms of sharpness. I never noticed any problems with the PVR 250 in smoothness, but I mostly use hardware decoders now and it does not seem to have impact. I suspect that maybe the 550pro generates better MPEG2 timing data than the PVR250 which Software decoders are more sensitive to.

Well Superbowl footage out of the Theater 550 from yesterday was great. Looks good on either the monior or the TV output from x600xt. Even if I had to record it with Powercinema.

Aren't any of you guys running an external cable/satelite box?? If so it would be cool to here about one of you getting the universal netwrok encoder to work via girder tuning...

Give it a shot, it can't be anywhere near as hard as the firewire application... no delays or anything special needed, just the graph that shs already built.

well I got a response from Sage TV yesterday by email. They said the card is not supported and then gave me a link to the cards it does support. As if I could not find that and had not looked at the list before. I know its not supported but we would like to know if and when its going to be supported. Heck some of us would probly be willing to run tests for beta software to get it working if Sage would give us the chance. I know I would. Here I am telling sage that they are great and that other PVR software vendors are not as good and begging them to please let us at least work towards getting this card supported. ATI is going to put this chip on everything. All in wonders, Video tunning cards from Asus, Sapphire, MSI, ABIT, Megachips its been slated to go into tvs. Its the card fully supported by Microsoft for MCE 2005. Please please dont make me have to get rid of XP Pro and load MCE at least let us know if you are working on it or if we can help you work on it. The stuff I recorded the other day looks better than anything i have ever seen on a Tvio so please please please.

Thanks
