Gigantic .txt logs??

Just noticed the gigantic text log files that SageTV is creating. Sagetv_0.txt - Sagetv_3.txt and Sagetvclient_0.txt - Sagetvclient_3.txt.

Are they part of the beta or have they always been there? Are they really necessary? Writing them has got to slow SageTV down rather noticeably. If they are not really necessary, is there a line in the .properties files to turn them off? I looked and didn't see anything that leaped out at me. These logs get to be up to 20Mbytes or more in length.

Apologies if this has been asked and answered a million times already.

betas have logging enabled to help Frey understand the causes of problems when they occur... (and 20Mb is not very much in comparison to a Mpeg2 recording which would write that much in 30 seconds or less!)

The XXX_0.txt file is the most recent & it cycles through the 4 most recent versions. As nielm says, it is just for beta versions & is turned off in release version. You can't disable it in the beta.

The only issue I have with them is that they are way to big to email to tech support. It would be nice if they limited the size to something a little more email attachment friendly and then just had more files to make up the difference.

The key for sending in a log regarding the log file size would be to try to find a way to reproduce the error, then restart SageTV, go through the error, and immediately exit SageTV. That would leave a fairly small log file that still has all info.

Thanks for the info. Sort of assumed as much, but I wanted to hear the definitive version.

As they are ASCII text files they should zip down to almost nothing. If you have to email them to Frey you should zip them up first, then they should be fine.

Andy.
