Linear editing tagging? (request)
Just a though but I was wondering if there was a way to hit a button on my remote to mark an in point and hit it again to mark an end point so that it could be exported in, say, Premiere (or whatever, its very flexible) for later editing. The first use would be for commericals post processing but I was watching the Golden Globes and saw Shattner get an award (yeah I'm a big Trek fan

I second this. Seems like this method is more preferable to real-time comskipping in terms of editing a file while you watch it.
Myth actually has this |

I suggested this awhile back and it was largely ignored. I don't know about Premiere but the VideoRedo mechanism is already working in Comskip. The resulting clips would certainly load into Premiere. All we need is a 'cut' button on the remote. This would be a real time saver.

I probably mis-spoke. Let me clarify.
I am watching some show and see something I want to save. I hit a button on the remote and am presented with an options menu; cut in, cut out, and close. I select cut in and Sage creates a .VPrj file with the same name as the current media file and saves the cut info. Play forward in the video and select cut out and Sage updates the VPrj file. EasyClip(r) The resulting project files are submitted to VRD in a batch and clips are produced. Instead of dealing with the entire Larry King episode that I have forgotten why I saved in the first place, I now have a short, sweet file with just that classic Johnny Carson axe throwing joke. Studio can create and manipulate VPrj files, ask Carlos. I am seeing SageTV as a media filter. Sage takes the hundreds of content hours that hit my sat box everyday and, using IR, filters and records. I watch that content and save the clips I like. I want to partner up with someone to design and build this. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/30/ar...on/30manl.html Quote:

Exactly what I was looking for! So you weren't saying that this avalible now with video redo, right? Because I am pretty sure Premiere supports VPrj and that would be really fantastic. I wish I could help you with this but I do not have the skills or the studio platform.

I am trying to decide if I should dedicate a block of my life to re-learn how to code in studio
![]() Think about how the cut process should work. Right now, I have assigned a button on the remote to the custom3 listener. I press the button, the video pauses, and an options menu appears with cut in, cut out, and close. I can then write out the VPrj parameters to a file. A usable implementation is just not that simple however. It needs to allow for multiple cuts, canceling out, reviewing/changing cut segments, and such. Would love to see the cuts in the OSD timeline in pink or something. And of course, VRD should process the files automagically. All of a sudden it gets pretty complex. But it sure would be nice though. Any studio people want to comment? |

Glbrown, I was thinking about this today while I was messing with Girder. With some STV-type additions, such as the ability to mark spots in the OSD timeline via say, control-shift-1, control-shift-2, control-shift-3, etc. I think it would be possible to use girder to bypass Sage's, apparently, secret IR process. Using state perameters, the first press would trigger mark-in, the second mark-out. For the more advanced stuff, I am no expert, but I believe via Girders OSD and seperate control group for, say, videoredo this could also be possible. Just a thought.

This would be really tough without access to the core code.

Before this thread came up, I was thinking about making a VideoRedo-style screen in Sage allowing you to make cuts and save to a Vprj, then launch VRD in batch mode to execute the cuts... It is definatly possible, just might take a little time
Unfortunatly, I don't much time at the moment to do this, and if I don't release the long promised webserver upgrade soon, I may get a virtual lynching ![]() |

That would be awsome Nielm! If you ever get around to it, I'll be first in line to test it out

While you're at it, it would be nice if a freeware app could then process the cuts. VideoRedo, although it does a good job, is rather expensive given it's simple task.

I have a usable cut function running here that I would like someone to beta test. PM me.
