Hauppauge compatibility

I find bits and pieces all over the forum, but in any one place definitive.

Since the new PVR-150 and PVR-500MCE cards are out, reports are sketchy as to what is compatible with what and what features are possible do to either hardware or software limitations.

The new cards have slightly better (if noticable at all) picture quality.

A while back someone somewheres did a small chart list as to what cards would work well side by side on a PC. This chart was based apon the 250 and 350 family of cards, could someone who has or has tested these new cards (150, 500) please post compatibility and any issues that it may bring up.

Rumor has it a 350 and a 150 can not be in the same machine, I also heard that you cannot get Comskip or CC on these new cards. ...

WHat about a 150 and a 250?
A 250 with a 500?? etc...

Don't even think about the 500's if you're on a VIA chipset. I've been through 2 computers now and have parts on the way to build a fresh machine free of VIA that should hopefully have me running my 500's by weeks end.

Comskip has nothing to do with the encoder, it just looks at the files, but no, Hauppuage hasn't added CC to the 150/500 drivers yet.

I recently emailed Hauppauge support. I don't think there are any plans to add CC to the 150/500 since Windows MCE doesn't do CC by using the drivers.

I just set up a system running a Sempron 2500+ with a VIA chipset. I am not having any problems running 2 500's and a retail 150.

People waiting for closed caption support through a Hauppauge driver update for the 500/150 should refocus their hopes towards Frey. If closed captioning done as in MCE was finally incorporated into Sage, not only would 500/150 users be happy, but anyone with a supported encoder would get to use it.

It's seems like a "pass the buck" type situation when everyone refers to the fact that Hauppauge hasn't added support. When in reality this is specifically a Frey responsability. They have had time to move to a totally different platfrom, yet no time to add feature that their customers direly wish for. Adding native universal closed caption support, aswell as exclisive fullscreen mode is in my opinion very long overdue!
