Resetting all files.....

I'm adding a second HD (I'll have 2-200GB drives! ). I plan on using my new drive as my OS drive, and leaving my current recordings on my current drive. Will it be possible to simply point to the drive when I get sage reloaded (with your STV of course!) and reset my shows on that drive so they can be selected like normal from within sage? The last time I did this and formatted, I saved the files, but lost them in sage.

(Actually I'll have to copy them over to my new drive, format the old drive, then transfer them back to the now newly formatted drive, then "relink" them in SAGE )

There is a FAQ entry for this.

YES the FAQ entry holds true. I feel there is more information you need to know but I'll refrain from telling you since you wanted a YES or NO only.

That will teach me huh?

My appolgies to Andy. My personal pet peev, and yes I know I'm lazy sometimes...like now, is the "SEE THE FAQ" answer.

I wanted to (and did) post this on CAYERS thread, but didn't want to bother him with non-STV issues. (I see he has chimed in and commented!) so I deleted before I posted.

I'm at work and just needed answers quickly.

ToxMox, would you please devulge the info you have if it's not in the FAQ? I'll try and not be so "rude" next time.

Thanks.

The FAQ holds true for Sage regardless of which STV you are using as it pertains to maintaining your recordings. I'd back up your entire Frey Technologies folder and after the new drive has Windows installed on it copy that directory back in then run the SageTV installer and then extract the JavaR1.zip from Cayars to the lib/ext folder of your Java install. Then follow the FAQ entry. This should maintain as much of your previous setup as possible.

The reason I post such comments is that the users on this forum are all volunteering their time to help others. It wastes their time to have to restate things that are already posted elsewhere, especially in a fairly visible place like the FAQ. It is one thing to have missed it in a search and get a pointer to existing info, but it is another to dismiss such redirects and expect others to resate everything for you.

If the info you are pointed to doesn't cover what you really want to know or if it needs clarification, by all means: ask for clarification, and perhaps even mention what you've looked into so far. But to ignore what has already been posted to help people and ask others to say the same thing all over again isn't fair to everyone else. The other forum members are not your personal research assistants to do your bidding.

(And, yes, I understand that asking if such info applies when using a particular STV may be an item for clarification: I haven't read my FAQ that closely today, so I don't know if I said anything about using other STVs.)

Understood Andy and point well taken. I have read the Faq, but didn't mention it. The type of info ToxMox offered was what I really was after. Like I said, I am at work, and was trying to be quick about posting. I will be more clear in the future.
