OOOOooo, AAAAaaa, SageTV Lite has been announced released... like I give a rip. And still nary a word on from Sage Officialdom on anything else. Glad my current 2.27 config is stable and has high WAF factor!

I for one, like the fact that they are going lite. I just hope that they can keep the flavor...

I.

... same great taste, just less filling.

Edit: Just a little too late! I knew I shouldn't have paused to decide whether I wanted to add any more sayings, like: "They are the same thing, just a little different" or "Lite & the full product are equal, but one is more equal than the other". Oh well.

hee-hee.

Sage TV Lite IS Sage 3.0. Except it is just the PVR and a 3 day EPG. It doesn't have the DVD-Music-Pictures that Sage 3.0 Media Center will have.

hee-hee.

Talking Did anyone else catch this???

As an additional benefit, SageTV Lite enables OEMs to offer an upgrade path to consumers who want full Media Center functionality. Users can add a 14-day integrated EPG, full-season recording of favorite shows, music and photo management, CD and DVD burning, home network media streaming, and a variety of other capabilities by upgrading to the full-featured SageTV Media Center platform.

Just my interpretation of part of the Sage Lite announcement..: CD/DVD Burning from w/i Sage would be really cool
Looks like a feature to come in 3.0? Here's hopeing...

It had best be better than what's in there now... I gave up on video playing within sage as half the divx files I was tossing at it wouldn't play... So I've been knocking up my own media player for use with sage and girder...

Oh, and yes... CD/DVD burning within sage would kick much ass...

Sonic's new edition (well... relatively new) of My DVD is FANTASTIC. I first tested this with TiVo files ripped using TyTool. Nothing else would take TiVo files without some serious prep work first until the newer Sonic MY DVD (for TiVo version) came along. I am familiar with such software as the imensely flexible (and complicated) DVDLab Pro and other very high end DVD burning packages. What is so cool about Sonic's MY DVD ("for TiVo" but will work with anything) is that it makes everything so insanely simple. No more building menu's etc. It does all the work! Just drag and drop the mpg files into it and it does everything for you seemelessly. You get pretty little pictures for menus and everything without having to name or "create" anything. Click burn and it's all over! You might consider trying that out.

This is going to be a hot summer....
And I was getting comfy with just watching TV..... and no fiddling around.

Did anyone notice the bit in the SageTV Lite announcement about the Media Center offerring CD and DVD burning etc.....

I think we may all be in for a shock when 3.0 gets released..... either way..

Booo.
I have issues with my Sage setup at the moment, but I'm unwilling to spend lots of time sorting out the problem as I know that I will have to do it all over again when 3 is released.

C'mon frey, release 3 tomorrow and put me out of my misery. That way I have all weekend to install it.

Tried Sonics MyDVD didn't like it, But then i didn't like any of the other DVD software that try's to help you with the menu's for you either. I'm one of thoughs weird nuts that likes to make custom menu's that make the DVD look more like a comercial DVD. So i use the older Winon CD/DVD 6 for making my DVD menu's. I just haven't seen another DVD authoring program that allows you to do as much with menuing outside of hollywood as i can with Winon. Of course it's not easy to pickup and learn and it takes more time to make the menus but once done i have had some really proffesional looking DVD menus.

As I said im kinda weird about my menus i like em to look like something that came outt'a hollywood and im not afraid to spend a week editing video's to create animated clips for the menu intro, Outro and scene changes etc...

But i digress I just prefer some of the older stuff that gives you more control over the creation even if it's harder to use and learn it just makes the end result that much more satisfying I think.

Eek. If it takes more than ~15 minutes to make menus, I won't do it at all.

Heh. I figure I look at the menus for like 30 seconds max - so what's the point?

That being said, I bet yours look really cool. And that does make the DVD seem more professional. Can't argue with that!

Jason

Sonic's MyDVD v6.1

This program is Slick! All I did here drag and drop the .mpg files from Sage (8.4 gb total). All you see below is the default menu and settings where I am sure you have the ability to change quite a bit if you wanted to. I dragged the two mpg files right onto the screen as shown. No fuss, no muss.

Sonic MyDVD doesn't make you get involved 'at all'. It took care of everything seemlessly, from shrinking them to fit on the DVD if needed, centering the menu, etc. It even made nice little animations out of each of the menu items, all automatically.

IMHO, if you aren't using Sonic, you are spending too much time!
