Display in SageTV is garbled...any way to fix it?
Trying to figure out why my Sage install looks like the screen shot. It's a fresh install (3 times now), version 2.2.8.
Any ideas? Will be gone for the weekend, but will be checking back first thing next week. Thanks for any help. |

That's pretty freaky. I'd bet that it's your video card/drivers.

I'm using a 6600GT with forceware 72.14 drivers. Wonder if I should install a different version of the drivers?

you might be able to workaround it by disabling 3d accelleration (it uses a different set of drawing routings), but this also disables VMR9 video renderer...

You should try 71.84 or newer 77.72
Also make sure you have latest DX9.0c install Last edited by SHS; 07-02-2005 at 09:40 AM. |

I installed the latest version of Java, still no success. Installed 77.72 video driver, and this still did not fix the problem.
I'm currently downloading DirectX 9.0c to see if that is my problem. The next step is to disable 3D accelleration manually by editing the Sage configuration text file. Any new ideas since the weekend? |

Yeah 2.2.8 NEEDs DX9.0c for 3D Accelleration to work. In fact I thought 3D Acc. was disable if you didn't have DX9 installed, go figure.

Hmm...maybe since I just installed 9.0c, I need to reinstall Sage?
Just installing 9.0c did not fix the problem. |

I did a complete uninstall, reboot, delete Frey directory, reinstall of Sage with no luck...

How do you see what version of DirectX is installed on the system?

dxdiag from the run dialog.

Okay. Says I have 9.0c installed.
Interesting thing is that when I do the Direct 3D test inside of the diag tool, I see the moving cube, however, the texture on the cube "sometimes" has the same texture that I'm seeing on my SageTV window when it comes up. I wonder if I should try the drivers that came with the video card on the CD? I figured, the CD drivers are usually out dated, but I don't really know of any other options. |

What I would do, is try removing all traces of your current drivers, and then install the latest ones, should be 77.84. Make sure you delete the C:\NVIDIA directory that the drivers extract themselves to. Also try downloading them again just to be sure.

The latest thing I've found is 77.72.
I will uninstall the drivers, and delete the drivers directory for the video drivers, and then try a reinstall of 77.72. |

Ah, you're right.

I have decided to do a clean install. I plan on installing the bare minimum, basically, just Windows, and drivers for the motherboard. Then the drivers for the video card, and then I will just install SageTV and see if it works off the bat.
Hopefully I'll at least get a good display on Sage, and if so, I'll just install everything else, one piece at a time, until I find the software/driver that caused the problem. |

Okay. Just the bare minimum installed, and this is what I found out.
I installed only Windows XP (MCE), nForce4 chipset drivers, and 77.72 ForceWare drivers for the 6600GT. Afterwards (never installed DirectX), I ran dxdiag.exe (I guess the base installation of Windows comes with 9.0c), and ran through the DirectX tests. The cube had the same texture that I was seeing in SageTV while it was rotating...not a good sign. I then installed the latest version of Java. Then I installed SageTV 2.2.8. Without touching my video settings, I ran SageTV. Same garbled screen as before. Closed SageTV. Ran dxdiag.exe again, and clicked the "disable" button next to Direct 3D Accelleration. Closed out of dxdiag. Ran SageTV again, and now the display looks normal. Is this what I should expect? That I should have to disable 3D Accelleration to get it to work on this video card? Why am I able to run 3D Accelleration on a 4 year old video card? I'm surprised that more people aren't running into this issue, as many times as the 6600GT is recommended to people building HTPC's. By running this way, it basically means I won't be able to run VMR9, correct? Was anyone else able to get Sage to display with 3D Accelleration enabled? |

Hmm...It's a BFG 6600GT OC, which means that it's mildly overclocked out of the box. Wonder if I should RMA it?
Strange that it would work at all though, isn't it? |

I've sent an e-mail to BFG, along with a screenshot of the above posted picture. Hopefully they will have some insight.
