Cable Channels directly through the capture card
I have recently subscribed to my cable company for the $10 basic only plan while testing this system. As everyone who has cable knows, you have to remap the channel numbers to get the network channel numbers to correctly correspond to the cable channel numbers. The problem I am having is that after I remap the channels, there then appears to be no rhyme or reason for the order in which Sage lists those channels in the guide. I never use the guide but my wife still does sometimes. It would be nice to have them show up in the same order I remaped them. If I mapped cable channel 3 to channel 6 and there are no channels above channel 6 now then channel 6 should appear at the top of the list. It doesn't.
Is there something I am doing wrong? Is it better to remap these channels in some property file or something? Using a "custom guide" and changing those options doesn't seem to work either. Is there any way to get them to order correctly after mapping? |

You shouldn't have to remap channels for analog cable, I didn't have to remap anything. Are you using the right source?

I could be wrong. I hope I am. It is my understanding having lived in Fort Worth at one time that larger cities use the same channel numbers as the networks but smaller towns sometimes have to map thiers. I live in Waco. I did set up the correct source and chose all analog options. Cable channel 3 here is network channel 6 for instance. Yeah I think I have to remap. Thanks for any additional suggestions ??

Actually I don't have to map at all in order to record something but if I want to see the correct data (ABC News Channel 25 as it's known locally) instead of a cable number (5) then I would have to remap wouldn't I?

Like stanger89 says: most people shouldn't have to remap anything; that should all be taken care of by the lineup downloaded for the zipcode/provider you specified during setup for that source. Just leave all channels as they originally were & then try watching that channel, as listed in the LiveTV Guide. If it not the correct channel, only then should you need to return to Channel Setup and remap it to a differnt channel number.
A channel may go out over the airwares as "channel 25", but when it comes in via coax, it is tuned at whatever location the cable companies decides. The program data is listed in the guide according to the channel number that your cable company uses. - Andy

Are you using Time Warner?
http://tvlistings2.zap2it.com/edit_p...1&system=75163 It looks to me like zap2it (and hence Sage) already knows KXXV is on cable 5 instead of broadcast 25. |

If you're coming from OTA non-digital then perhaps you're not used to the cable channel numbers?
Many cable providers don't follow the OTA channel frequencies on a one-to-one basis. Before you remapped anything, was the guide data in SageTV accurate when compared to what was playing in Sage's LiveTV? In other words, when you tried to watch Maury Povitch live, did he show up in all of his glory, or were you stuck with CSPAN? Peraps I'm way off base here? |

OK, I think I must be misunderstanding what mapping actually does? I was under the impression that all it did was change the number listed to a number that is the same as what the local antenna uses. Apparently it's to fix guide data issues. I will leave it alone then and try to find logos that include the correct number in the logo.

You have cable now... let go of your preconcieved notion that it's channel 25 and accept that it is now cable channel 5.

I hear that. It would just be nice if the numbers matched up with the local logos in the bottom right. Oh well... I can live with that. I'll just look for the correct logos so that I can know what I am looking at in the guide. It's not a big deal.
