help a new Client user
Hello-
I've been testing Sage for quite a while, but I've just recently decided to replace my BeyondTV installation with a Sage + 3 clients network setup. Overall, it is working very well, and I really hope to send Frey Tech lots of money in the near future. However, I'm having a couple of showstoppers that I'm hoping some of you fine folks can help me troubleshoot. 1) From time to time, my clients will refuse to respond or show video when I load a recorded file or start Live TV for several seconds (20-40). During this period, I can hear audio, but no joy otherwise. If I do an Alt-F4, the video will appear briefly before SageTV Client quits out. 2) Also occasionally, my clients will refuse to change channels. I can walk over to the server and change channels there, but if I go to the Live EPG and choose 'Watch Now' nothing will happen. I hope you fine people will be able to keep me from returning to the land of Beyond...

So, I've solved the 2nd problem by removing the Cayars STV that I was using, but sadly I'm still having the second issue. To elaborate a bit on it, when I changed STVs I realized that it's not so much that video doesn't show as it is that the interface refuses to take any commands for several seconds when a video stream starts (although as I mentioned, the problem is intermittent).
Is anyone else having this issue? do you know of a fix? Pretty please?

The only thing I remember hearing about regarding remote commands not being accepted right away was that soeone found that Norton AntiVirus was eating memory as it scanned the videos during playback, causing memory swapping to disk. The answer to that was to exclude the recording dirs from auto-scanning.
I don't know what else could be causing it... video card drivers and/or video decoder not working optimally? You've tried changing those, the renderer, and/or turning off 3D Acceleration? - Andy

Well, I believe that I found the culprit (I did about an hour of testing with no UI stalls). I turned off 'hardware acceleration' in the NVDVD control panel. Note from my sig that I used to have a 6600, and had to go down to a 9600 for a while (figured I'd wait for the vanilla 7800). It looks like there are NVDVD issues with the last few Cats, and although they say they fixed in in the most recent release, I think this may be a bit of detritus from that.
Perhaps this will help folks in the future. Thank you to all who responded.
