Thumbs up fixed .stv/.xml problem

I try and keep any changes I make in one file, in the other file. I use ExamDiff (free tool) to compare the two files, and make any needed changes.
That DID IT!! I went into sageclient properties and sure enough it had ".stv" listed. I changed it to my current xml (sagetv-7.xml) and all is ok. Thanks again Geo and Andy.

Good deal.

Editing the properties file is also one way to recover from a bad STV mistake. If you get into Sage, and end up with a black and white text that doesn't erase itself (when a new menu appears), it's hard to navigate to the STV section, unless you've done it so much, you have the menus memorized. Changing back to the default STV is a lot easier in the properties file, when that happens.

I've been playing with placeshifting and I am seeing some major issues with seeking and at the end of shows. It basically freezes and plays like 1 second of audio over and over again. Has anyone else seen anything similiar?

I just got done updating to the .9 beta, and wanted to report that all went perfectly well. I configured Placeshifter, and it works very well over my LAN. Testing an external connection is next.

I am very impressed with the fixes and this new feature, thanks for the effort.

I have seen this, I hit the RR button two or three times quickly, screen froze and 1 second audio loop. Other than that, placeshifter is kewl.

how does ORB and slingbox handle ports and such? they do it so seamlessly. Could not get sageTV working from my work (very limited ports) - but orb and slinggbox works.

I seem to have had a bad experience with the upgrade to v4.1.9. The program guide is a major point of failure and I have to reboot the server every 18 hours or so.

No, it's not just you. A firm request came from my household to disable it. I thought it was pretty cool in 4.1.8, but in 4.1.9 it just got wacky.

Nielm,

Yeah....it's definitely 'experimental' But it's doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing at this point.

Ditto!

The music support needs a lot of work - mostly in understanding use models better. It's not that it's buggy, but that the implementation is based on poor assumptions about how it will be used. A badly missing feature is "shuffle play" inside a playlist for example.

Also what I'd like to see is Deria's Winamp visualization plug-in become a standard feature. Surely Sage and Deria could collaborate on that.

The visualization that comes with sage can't really be called visulization because it's too ugly to look at. Sorry to be blunt.

In my opinion, fixing already existing features so they're considered usable and well implemented by a majority of customers should take a higher priority than yet another media extender - although I do understand the need to compete on features. I just hope they're not giving up on fixing/improving music support.

4.1.9 MVP PAL fix

Hi

Saw this in the release note...

Extender Updates
1. Fixed PAL support for transcoding video to the MVP

Does this fix the aspect ratio problem of PAL 16x9 video on the MVP, where everything comes out 4x3 with cropped sides ?

If it does I'm back in the game!
Regards.

I think that somehow incorporating something like the Milkdrop visualizations would be the way to go here. There are tons of presets (over 5500 of them) available for Milkdrop as well.

I have seen Milkdrop work with XBMC, so it is definitely not a Winamp-only thing...

Here are some screenshots.

Another missing feature is the ability to resume imported videos when stopping them and restarting them at a later time.

I agree as well. SAGE for a PVR and TV is just awesome. It has ALWAYS to me seemed like the music and pictures were an after thought. I have always had to find 2 solutions. Sage as my PVR and SOMETHING else for music. Sage MC with the Winamp plugin is almost perfect, but for my current setup I am not running Sage MC. I've even had some strange issues with some LAME encoded MP3's not playing correctly in Sage. I would love to see some more resources devoted to the Music end of this as well..

Thats my 2 cents.. FWIW.

Jeff

This is sweet ive got placeshifting working. Im watching basketball on my work computer right now

However, in order for me to buy it, you guys need to add DVD playback, and fix HDTV. I guarantee you at least one sale if u do that.

Also id really really like MPEG4-AVC playback. But you need to get that working on Sage itself first!!!

Is TCP port 31099 allowed through your firewall/router, so the placeshifter can talk to the server?
