Orb.com interaction

I use orb.com to watch live tv while im at work If windows MCE has control of the tuner - orb presents an option to stop MCE and take control. However, it has no such option with sage.

Does anyone think it is possible for Sage to emulate the windows MCE recording flag - so Orb has the ability to shut Sage down as well?

Why aren't you using the SageTV Placeshifting. Is there something Orb does that Placeshifter doesn't?

I can't install anything on my work computer - and my sysadmin would't be very receptive to allowing the installation of software which takes away from my "productivity."

Placeshifter is just 4 files. You can put them on a usb key or cd and run it from there with no install. It's pretty easy to do, and essentially clientless unless your not allowed to put in a usb key or cd to your pc at work. You could even email them to yourself.

Definately, Windows Mobile support! Its really amazing to be able to use orb to watch TV, videos, movies and my music on my PPC. I would love to have Sage support orb a bit better (since I am doubtful PPC support is in Sage's immediate plans) but Nielm's webserver does the trick just fine.

For me, the Sage Placeshifter isn't able to place-shift content outside of my apartment complex's managed network (port issues, I'm sure). However, Orb is somehow able to get through their firewall. I'd prefer to use the Placeshifter, but Orb just works.

Thats just the plain truth isn't it . Really one of the nice things about Orb, it just works. And I just saw today that there is a Meedio plugin for Orb. Man, the guys at Frey really need to just start handing out Sage licenses to Meedio plugin developers. Eventhough Meedio is in limbo those guys are still coming out with great plugins. Something needs to be done to bring them over here, IMO.

Edit: Sorry, I just read that back and wanted to add, that is in no way any kind of reflection on the great developers here. Much gratitude to all those guys and all the great things they have accomplished which I don't even know how to start thinking about. I just wish there were more, thats all.

For me I, for a long time, have been wanting to move to an all Sage HTPC but, because of a lack of features which I enjoyed with Medio, I have been unable to. Its not bells and whisles, but its core functionality like the music and metadata for TV shows and web content like music videos and CNN. And am hoping the Frey guys consider doing something to bring more to their platform so I can make the switch I have been long wanting to, thats all.

Been gone... (working my a@# off actually...) but I (re)read this thread today and started thinking...

Is there a way to cross reference the medium id's that Orb uses...

http://www.orb.com/download/add-ons/api/doc/index.html

to the media id's that Sage uses?

If so, then a 'simple' [STREAM WITH ORB] button could be added to nielm's web server... right?

This is what is being done with the Meedio plugin mentioned... correct?

http://www.meedio.com/maid/detail.ph...A-9E4E36251694}

This would allow Orb to transcode/stream the file while using the SageTV data/descriptions...

-Jason

EDIT:

Here is a post on the orb forums for this exact info...

http://forums.orb.com/viewtopic.php?...18b8e09677bb4c

EDIT2:

OK... now we are getting somewhere... :-)

FYI, ORB is not completely stable on the server side. It can stop working on the server side from time to time (even on the perfectly configured WHQL certified HTPC). Placeshifter will work every time. There's no software install required; and can pass through proxies with "ProxyCap" addon software.
