Can't Import STVi

I've been using Sage for a while but have always kept it "stock" using the original STV with no imports or other modifications. I thought I'd try experimenting with some of the imports but can't get it to work. When I try to import the module I get a message saying I can't import into the current STV and that I need to make copy of it. I tried that and it did not work. I also tried making the STV copy the active STV and importing into that, no luck. I tried different STVi's, that did not work either.

I'm obviously doing something wrong but I do not know what. All of the install instructions for the STVi's I've looked at just say to go to Setup->Detailed Setup->Advanced and choose the correct STVi. Seems straight forward but as soon as I click on Select I get the "STVi import packages may not be imported into this STV" error message.

I'm trying this from a SageClient if that makes any difference.

Make sure your copy isn't set as read only like the original is.

since you already made a copy just go to the sagetv dir in program files and then the stv dir and find the SageTV3.xml file and right click and uncheck read only.

Sounds like your copy is marked as read only. BTW the newer versions of Sage automatically create the copy for you.

Also sounds like you are either running an old version of Sage (most of the newer stvi's require v5.0 version of Sage), or the STV from an old version of Sage (its called SageTV3.xml in v5 -- you may need to edit the properties file to set it...)

I already tried taking off the read-only attribute but that made no difference.

I solved the problem by upgrading to the latest 5.0.4 client, I was running 5.0.1. I'm not really sure why that made any difference, but it did. I am now happily running nielm's View/Delete Partials STVi and Intelligent Suggestions STVi. (I was already using his web interface.)

nielm is an absolute Sage Enhancer Guru. Hat's off to the man. I wonder how many times Sage has offered him a job.

Edit: In honor of nielm I have changed my avatar. This is our cat, Belle, with her second favorite companion. (Her first choice is our daughter.)
