Remote Control of SageTV

My windows remote control software and VNC both used to give me a good remote view of my Sage computer. Now that I have replaced my video card with a much BETTER video card, both of those tools seem to turn the screen black in the remote console regardless of settings. Does anyone know how I can get this to work again?

I've seen this too. It seems to be related to 3D acceleration. My workaround is to quit Sage and restart it while connected remotely. (Use Ctrl+Shift+F to take the blacked-out Sage window out of full-screen mode in order to access the close button.) When it comes back up, 3D acceleration is disabled and the window contents are visible. I then have to reenable 3D acceleration manually when I'm back local again.

Obviously you want to be running Sage as a service to do this, so that closing & restarting the UI doesn't interrupt any recordings.

I'm not sure I completely understand. I'll play around a bit and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the tips.

Snoopy, I am not sure what your overall goal is for using VNC or some other remote control program. I use RDP for remote administration which does not interrupt the viewing on the TV. Check out the demo of http://www.xpunlimited.com It offers up to 3 sessions at once and doesn't expire for free.

The only downside w/ regular RDP is that it logs out the local interface. not too good when the significant other is using the system. I'm down to using VNC and the web plugin since I'm no longer the sole user.

Try disabling the video hook in the vnc server properties.

Icon - r - iffic!

Those icons really increased my WAF today! I just took a closer look at the new set and have a suggestion.

I like 100% opacity ones probably because I have a low-definition TV. I think the single rec and rec_series icons are a little too alike to make them real self-explainatory though. I love the eyeballs for 'watched' status too. That one almost eluded me. I would like to see the reg rec_series take on a longer trail and in the shape of a heart indicating is was a regular 'favorite'. This might make it easier to distinguish from the single_rec icon.

TO ALL:
I am looking for a way to script add-ons that might be able to accomodate additional items for those that redo-the SageTV regularly. If we could script our on add-on, property file ready, all-in-one add-on package for SageTV that involved nothing more than a click on a self-executing file, it might bring more folks in and make us die-hards have an easier time re-doing as is sometimes necessary. I have also attached my how-to for my own starting over process that even now doesn't have everything I have done to tweak my SageMC. If this how-to were simply clickable and everything extracted automatically where it was told to, then all would be easier/quicker to set-up.

I don't entirely understand what you're trying to say here (or what it has to do with remote control), but there already is way to script add-ons. That's exactly what an STVI file is: a script for applying a set of changes to an STV. An STVI can also be coded to set properties, or copy files, or do whatever else needs doing at import time. So I'm not sure what additional automation tools you need beside that.

If you're wishing for something specific to SageMC, that's probably best posted in the Customizations forum.

try the xpunlimited program.

Advantages:
1) You can log on and not interrupt the other user
2) Very fast
3) Free, demo doesn't expire
4) You can leverage your box for other tasks

Disadvantages:
1) You can't "see" the Sage interface.

there is a simple free hack to allow multiple concurrent session in RDP + winxp, I've been using it for over a year...see google. It's funny that someone is selling a product that does the same thing.

You're right! That is what an STV is but I am not sure whoever writes the STV want's it hacked up with all the add-ons. If you read the doc, attached in the previous post, you will see that there have been several add-ons, settings for that STV. In other words, SageMC has gotten so good and so popular, that people have written add-ons for it. Nice graphics, special settings, etc. Since someone else comes out with something nearly every day/week.

There is a free hack, yes, but it is a hack. This means you can't update your box without fear of termserv.dll becoming broken. This product is for sell, but you'd be crazy to buy it unless you needed more than 3 simultaneous sessions.

EDIT: Does anyone ever read anymore?

That's why a backup is automatically created every time you import a new function/STVi. That's what all the numbers are added to each STV you import to. You have SageMC169.xml and you import Caller ID so know you are using SageMC169-1.xml. And so on after each import of an STVi. Flachbar also created the STVi Importer http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/down...?do=file&id=71 that will let you do multiple imports in one sweep. Makes it easier between new STVs.
