Unhappy UNC paths and playback problem

Hi,

I am finally getting around to getting comskip going on my client.

I followed toxmox's instructions (post ten of this thread: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18923) for setting up unc paths for my recording directories. All seemed good until I tried playing back live tv. At first sage would just lock up. At this point I realized I had not checked the "allow network users to change my files" box in the sharing dialog box. After doing so I would get a few seconds of playback and then lockup. I recently started using the service and realized that I had not set it up as an exception in the windows firewall. Doing so made no difference. I disabled the windows firewall and still saw no change. I then replaced the wiz and prop files with the backups I made before trying this and disabled the shares on the recording directories, problem disappeared.

Recorded shows played back just fine, so it seems that sage is having trouble writing to the recording directories. I did set up the loopback adapter as described by toxmox. Any chance this may be causing my problem?

I would really like to get comskip working on my client, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Jesse

some clues..

Hi,

Some more info. I got up this morning and realized that the names of the recording folders were not exactly the same as the share name I set up for them. So I made the changes but it did not solve my problem.

I then disabled the service and started sage up. This time things appeared to work. So I am thinking maybe something is up with the user ID and password I set up for the service. It was an admin user, but who knows. I create a new admin user and password and start the service using it. Once again things appear to be working. Then it occurs to me that the user/password might not be the issue. Maybe when I changed over to unc paths the sageclient props files got updated but not the sageprops files that the service uses. Perhaps starting sage without the service updated the files and solved the problem? To late to find out as I did not check the sageprops vs. the sageclient props before starting without the service.

The problem is not quite solved. As I said, things only appeared to work. When I first tested it was with my vbox OTA HD tuners and they worked fine. I have had a problem with live tv being jumpy on my Theater 650 tuners but when I tried them now playback would not work at all. Reocrded shows would also lock up after a few minutes of playback. Back to my pre-unc path setup again.

Still looking for any help I can get.

TIA

Jesse
