A digital TV station can broadcast several programs at the same time on one channel, by multiplexing the program streams together in the same transport stream (broadcast signal). This is why digital stations have channel numbers like 7-1, 7-2, etc. You have to choose which program stream or "subchannel" you want to watch within the transport stream for that channel.

In principle it would be possible to record all the program streams within a given transport stream. Sage doesn't do this currently; it strips out the unwanted program streams in order to make the recorded file as small as possible. I have no idea how feasible it is to modify Sage to record different program streams to separate files.

But in any case it would work only with digital TV (not old-fashioned analog), and only with different subchannels of the same station. With just one tuner you won't be able to record two completely separate stations at the same time.

I believe that there is an option in Sage to record the whole transport stream, which would record all the subchannels all the time. You would need a lot of disk space and another program that would allow you to choose which program stream to use for playback.
