Question Laptop as a client?

I'm thinking about using a new laptop Compaq V6000z as a client hooked up to my HDTV. This has a Sempron 3400 and the Geforce GO 6150. Would this work for HD? I'd have to get a VGA to DVI-I adapter to hook it up to my TV since the only video out on the laptop is VGA. I'd also be looking at using a USB sound card to output S/PDIF.

Don't recommend any different laptops because I already have this system and the alternative is to try to return it to Compaq (it hasn't even been opened yet).

I'm not sure a VGA to DVI-I adapter will work for you. I think HDTV's usually only have DVI-D connections. Your adapter would just reroute the analog output to the analog pins of the DVI-I connector. It won't do analog to digital conversion. HTH

Mike

According to the manual for my TV, the connector is a DVI-I. What do you think about the video card and USB sound?

Sorry, I would just be speculating on the sound and graphics. The 6600GT seems to be considered the practical minimum for HD. I would therefore suspect that the 6150 would struggle, but that is only a suspicion. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Aloha,
Mike

That's alright. The wife has decided to get rid of it anyhow. It was just a thought.
