Help..Pixel edging!!!

I just had to rebuild my client. XP Pro, latest version of sage, nvidia decoder.

When I watch The Incredibles I see edging now on the characters. I have sage set to use the Nvidia decoder and I've been playing around with the Decoder properties, but just clear them up.

I have also been searching here, but just can't find what I need.

I also have set:

Video Render: VMR9
3D: Enabled
FSE: yes

Any thoughts?

I'm not sure what you mean by pixel edging. Are you referring to a line at the top or bottom of the display; or do you mean the images get a blocky outline; or is it something else entirely? Is this on your sage server, client or both? Your signature shows you have nVidia cards on for both setups, what do you have the "Image Sharpening" setting at (its under Color Correction in the nVidia control panel)?

How do you have Sage setup to use the purevideo decoders? Is the decoder itself selected, or do you have default selected with the purevideo decoder as the WMP default?

Also Image sharpening is at the lowest setting (all the way to the left).

open sagetv in windowed mode, play the video with your currrent VMR9 setting, take a screenshot (alt+Print Screen) of it and attach it to your post so we can see what you are talking about.

Rdefino, how does that same video look when you play it with the InterVideo NonCSS Decoder? (the one that comes with Sage)?

Also, how does it look if you use Overlay for a video renderer, instead of VMR9?

And, is there by any chance another video running on that computer at the same time?

I tried it using Sagetv mpeg video decoder, if that's what you mean by (InterVideo NonCSS Decoder). Still looks the same. I tried Overlay, and still the same. Also there is no other video running on the system.

Why wouldn't you be sure what I mean by "InterVideo NonCSS Decoder"? It's called exactly that: Main Menu --> Setup --> Detailed Setup --> Video/Audio --> MPEG2 Video Decoder Filter --> InterVideo NonCSS Decoder

We are talking about the same thing, right?

The OP doesn't know because it doesn't come with Sage, it comes with Hauppauge cards...Sage just supplies the Sage MPEG Decoder.

I have this exact same issue. I am using a radeon 9600pro, with 550pro tuner (on best quality). On my monitor and tv....it would be awesome if we fixed this. I have the most issues on american dad, family guy, and really anything that has large black lines to set borders. I have noticed that only certain lines do this (they seem to be those that are used to create depth if that makes sense). If you want to cross check our hardware...maybe we can figure it out.

If it plays fine in WMP, have you run the DECCHECK utility to see what the default decoder is set for? In Sage is your decoder set to the nVidia Purevideo, or is it set to use Default?

I have used deccheck and it's set for the nivida. Sage is also set to use the nvidia.

by the way, what format is The Incredibles? Is it a DVD or ripped/compressed format like Divx/Xvid? And does it happen to regular recorded TV shows in MPEG2 also?

It's a rip dvd. It shows on all ripped dvds. I don't see it on recorded shows that are not cartoons. But the recorded shows that are cartoons are recorded at a low quality so they look lousy to begin with.

Recorded no cartoons shows in HD look great. I don't see the issue with them.

well I'm watching a non HD recording and it looks to have the same problem.

Try setting Sage to use Default for both DVD and MPEG playback instead of the nVidia decoder. Technically it is the same decoder, as Default uses whatever WMP uses, but it tends to make a difference. I am not sure if it is still an issue, but once upon a time with nVidia set as the decoder the settings for purevideo didn't stick correctly (ie changing the properties through the nVidia taskbar icon). Worth a shot.
