Best way to play xvid avi files?

I have Sage v 5. I installed an Xvid codec on my computer, and i can import and play xvid avi files. However, i often encounter problems. I read on the forum about changing a line in the sage properties file:

mplayer/use_for_all_mpeg4_playback=false
to
mplayer/use_for_all_mpeg4_playback=true

however, my properties file does not have this line. Is this valid for sage 5? can i add this line to my file and get improved playback? thanks in advance for any help!

I don't know if it is valid or not, but if the version doesn't know it, it should ignore it. You can always try it to see if it improves your playback.

Sage has a customized mplayer module built in.

I believe that the new mplayer addition was added in V6.
