Turning SageTV Placeshifter ON

SageTV Placeshifter is in the bedroom on a computer that doesn't get used very often.

If SageTV is not running at all but the PC is on, is there any way to turn it on by Remote Control?

yes, depending on the remote you'll want to look at HIP or girder. If you have an MCE remote, check out the utility to remap the green button.

Great... It looks like Girder could work well. Now if I can get that going, it sends me to thinking about how to turn the computer ON from an off possition using a remote. Would that require a remote controlled power supply? If so, where?

check out S3 suspending. If you computer supports it, you can put it to sleep and wake it up.

From beta release notes..

Updates to add support for infrared receive in the Windows Placeshifter client
I think.. it is the Hauppauge 45 and MCE Remotes.

If I were in your shoes..

I would look to see if my PC supports S3 standby, get an MCE remote, run Matrix35's button software to make this work. You can set the green button up to launch an exe. Plus use Niel's Dynamic Menus and Exit command or SageMC. Make sure you exit SageTV prior to sleeping the PC.

You have to PM Matrix35 for the software, or PM me an email address, I can send you my copy. He removed the files as explained in his top post of the thread.

You can also use a USB-UIRT.

I am not smart enough to know how a usb-uirt works, but the MCE ir receiver + remote runs about 45 bucks. The remote includes a power button you can program to the TV along with volume too.

Actually it is fairly simple. Just turn it on in the Placeshifter settings (Port=USB) and then use your keyboard to navigate to Detailed Setup>Commands>Link... and program each button on your remote. Just like you do for a Sage client. But it is more expensive then the MCE remote and receiver.
