Pillarboxing 4:3 content on a 16:9 display

I have an MVP extender hooked up to a 16:9 display. My issue is that 16:9 content (like a DVD) displays correctly, but all of my 4:3 content (SD recordings, AVIs) is stretched to fill the screen. I would prefer to view the 4:3 content in the correct aspect ratio with the pillar boxing.

I know that on my SageTV Server, I can get an options menu with choices like "Fill, Source, etc", but this menu doesn't appear to be an option on my MVP (perhaps I am missing something?).

Any thoughts on what I need to do here?

Doesn't your TV have aspect ratio settings you can use? I have one MVP hooked up to a 16:9 TV and have just programmed buttons on my remote to set the TV to "fill" or "4:3" (ie pillarboxed). If the MVP was to output pillarboxed, the resolution would suffer.

Yes, my TV does have those options, but my primary remote isn't very good (it doesn't learn and can't change the TV's aspect ratio). So, when I want to watch pillar boxed, I have to dig through a drawer to grab the proper remote and change the TV's output setting. Would be nicer if the MVP could just do this for me.

I would think that any content from the MVP would be considered 4:3 source to the TV. The SVideo connection is a 480i output. It sounds as though your TV is doing the stretching and not SageTV.
