Unhappy Cannot switch channels

Background video remains the same when switching channels in Sage

I connect from my Scientific Atlanta’s Explorer 3250 set top box to my Hauppauge HVR 1600 through S-Video (for some reason, picture quality is much better than with coax). As for the tuning option, I’ve selected “use external Cable Receiver to tune channel” and Hauppauge IR Blaster as my tuning plug-in.

With this kind of configuration, I presume that channels tuning happens on the IR Blaster side and that Sage basically replicates whatever has been set there. When running IR Suite Manager and scanning for channels, IR SM ends up finding one source (channel 3) and Sage displays whatever channel my set top box is tuned on. It looks like IR SM doesn’t list my cable channels but the one TV canal my cable provider is using to send video.

As a consequence, when switching channels in Sage, background video remains the same (for instance, background video is MTV and channel is listed as ABC). Sage is not in sync with IR Blaster.

Any idea? Thanks in advance.

The Hauppauge IR blaster has to be configured to control your STB, and that software has to remain running when you run SageTV. Then, SageTV can use that blaster as the tuning plugin to change the channel as needed. If you are running in service mode, try running in non-service mode to see what happens.

Thanks for the quick reply Andy. I kind of knew it had something to do with the IR Blaster config ... I've been fighting with IR Blaster suite manager for the past 2 days with no success!! Documentation on Hauppauge's website is pretty limited. Well, I'm going to try this service mode trick and see what happens.

That was exactly it ... everything works fine when running sage in non-service mode ... go figure! Now I have to find out why i'm limited to 100 channels. Thanks for your help.

Opus,
I've been having the exact same problem. First it was only on my MVP. I could not change channels over 55.

Today, this is happening on the SageTV (next to the TV). I tried what you said and turned service mode off. SageTV changed fine. I turned service back on and SageTV works fine. I haven't tried the MVP yet.

The one thing I did notice, when I couldn't change, was that when I select what I want to watch and the Program Info comes up there is an arrow pointing down in close to the upper right corner. That has to mean something, yes?

SageTV has been up and working for a year with no problems like this. I did recently get an HDTV and a HDSTB (that is not connected to the SageTV box yet). So I did remove a tuner when I returned one of my digital STB's, but that was a week ago and that's when the problem started with the MVP.

Right now it's working ok after restarting service mode.

Dana
