Exclamation Major playback timeline issue

Since upgrading to v6, I've had a occasional issue with recorded programs in which the timeline moves far too quickly, often 4-5 seconds a second. Actual playback happens at the proper 29.97 fps, but SageTV will stop playback when it thinks the video is over (after only 5-7 minutes for a 30 minute recoding, for instance).

Has anyone else seen this? Is there a fix/workaround?

Yes, that happens to me too. My workaround: if I want to just watch that show and then delete it, I open the file with some other player like MPlayer. But if I want to keep that recording then I run the file through the "quick stream fix" of videoredo. More often than not that fixes the file.

Definitely a workaround, but please tell me more of this... "quick stream fix" of which you speak...

There is a timeline fix for HAU cards for the registry...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\hcwPP2\DriverData
“HcwTimeStampIssue1”=dword:00000001
“HcwTimeStampIssue2”=dword:00000000

Thanks, I'll try this. Does anyone know what the actual issue is?

I heard it was hardware related... But since adding the above I don't see any issues with SAGETV

Well, the program is VideoRedo. I bought it for 50 bucks or something, I don't remember. I use it to cut commercials from .mpg files. As an added bonus, I discovered that Stream Fix function in it. I think Videoredo has a 30-day evaluation period, so give it a try.

Reboot or Restart Required?

Is a restart of either the SageTV service or the machine necessary for this new registry key to take effect?

I have 2 hauppauge cards in my server, one firewire encoder and one usb. Im seeing a similar problem but it happens on recordings made on any of the tuners. (apparently) My problem isn't quite the same though. It appears that the recording timeline does not follow what is actually playing. For example, you can click on the timeline of a recording and it will jump to one possition, if you click on it again in the same place it will just to a different spot in the recording. Or, commercial skipping will jump the recording well before its marked in the timeline, and then resume after the commercial break at the correct place, then after about 30 seconds, it will jump backwards to the end of the commercial and start re-playing what it just played. Its as if the timeline does not match the frame numbers. But it isn't as drastic a problem as 9 seconds for every 1. Any ideas? Also, this seems to be more of a problem on my client machine, which has no tuners and is running vista with sage 6.2.4.145 beta. This client is a new box which i've never gotten to run perfectly

I'm running Vista. That folder in my registry does not even exist. any ideas?

ok duh i created the key
and the dwords, rebooting to test.

This is strange since ive never had this reg entry before and this issue has plagued me in the past.

It keeps coming back.

I can never remember what i do to fix it, since it will work great for months, and then suddenly it comes back.

How does one add the above value to the registry? I normally don't like to mess around in there but this seems relatively easy. thanks for helping a noob when it comes to regedit!

btw, running the video through the quick stream fix doesn't seem to do anything for me, I have a PVR 500. anyone got any thoughts on why i can't get mine fixed?

So I have the exact same problem, and have just added the registry keys. What does that do? and since I have three tuners did I need to add a third hcwtimestampissue?
