xBox360 HD external USB DVD Player

Just curious if anyone has tried to use the xbox360 external HD DVD player on a PC. Would a PC recognize the device? I believe that powereDVD is able to play HD DVDs, but not sure if Sage would be able to? HD and Blue Ray drives for the PC are available but expensive and it would be great if you could watch them through sage especially with a HDMI connection.

The PC can recognize it. I recommend you download cyberlinks hd / blue-ray tester to see if your system can handle it. If it can then you are golden!

I was close to watching and hd-dvd on mine, but it kept saying macrovision protection, even though I have an hdcp video card.. dont know what that means, but there are other means.

How did you connect your PC to your Display?

There is a pretty easy way around this problem using an inexpensive product, but it cannot be discussed on this forum. If you to go avsforums and look there you should be able to find a reference for it.

Thanks,
Mike

I connected mine via ati dongle to componenet out. But I am sure that if I used HDMI out, it would work fine.
THing is, I only have one hdmi input on my panny plasma, and that is occupied by the ps3. Why ps3 over htpc? Because the games look great now (ps2), and the dvds look even better.

Yup, HDCP (required for HD-DVD playback) is only over a DVI/HDMI port as long as your video card supports it. monoprice.com has a nice looking 4 port HDMI switch that uses a remote control for about $50.

Aloha,
Mike
