Google/YouTube will not work or upper CH's

Hi All... I've built a box and downloaded Sage. I have a couple of questions. I apologize if this has been covered but I could not find a resolution searching the forum. Everything seems to be working on the cable TV side of things except I can't view channels over 99. I'm guessing that's because I just plugged the cable directly into the PVR-150 and not through the set top box? If that's the case, I plan on installing a HVR-1600 in the near future, will that make a difference or will I still need to go thru the set top box?

Issue #2... I tried a BUNCH of YouTube and Google videos but they will not play. I just get a blank screen. I can see the progress bar moving and I never get an error.

Any help would be appreciated.

My rig is... Asus A8N-VM CSM, 2 GB RAM, AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+, PVR-150

Thanks.

JJ

For your first problem is because your tuner card is getting the analog stations only. To test this plug your cable into the TV and see if you get the same channels. In order to get more you will need to use your STB and output it to the PVR 150. Once you do that you will need to change the channels via IR blaster or Serial cable (if its turned on).

Unless you want an extra tuner or want to get HD you dont need a 1600, It does the same thing. But thats up to you. you might get better PQ but again thats all up to your tastes.

I am not sure about your second problem.

Go to Setup -> Detailed Setup -> Advanced & try enabling the setting for Overlay Color Keying.

It has been a while, but I think that is the setting to try changing.

Thank you both for your help. I haven't had a chance to try either suggestions yet...hopefully this weekend. If I use the IR blaster does the card change the channels automatically when it needs to record? I assume it does. How will I know if the serial interface is enabled? I assume that is the preferred method?

TIA

Others probably know more about this than I do, but I'm 95% sure that serial control only works with DirecTV (satellite) receivers.

For a cable-TV box, the usual option is an IR blaster. I think some folks have had success using Firewire connections for tuning, but it requires some creativity and of course a cable box that supports it.

Yeah I think most of the serial controlled boxes are satelite. But you never know. Try googling your cable company and the make model. There are some utilities out there to test if its on. They are somewhere around on these forums I think under hardware.

I removed the PVR-150 and installed the HVR-1600. When I start Sage now it brings me to the Setup Wizard and it has the WinTV 418 Video Capture and WinTV 418 TS as options. When I choose the former and then choose TV Tuner it displays a channel properly in the prview pane. But that's it. If I try to go back Sage just goes completely BLACK and I have to manually shutdown and when I restart it's back to the Setup Wizard. I uninstalled all of the old PVR-150 drivers and software and loaded the latest and greatest for the 1600 so I don't know what else to do. I can't even get to any other part of Sage.

Try running Hauppages' hwclear. That should remove all stray files. I dont have a HVR-1600 so I cant help you much on the setup. It seems that the "WinTV 418 video capture" should be the s-video or RCA jacks and the "WinTV 418 TS" should be the OTA HD. Are you plugging the cable source directly into the card or are you using the s-video jack? If you are using s-video dont choose the TV tuner. (Again I do not have one of these, so I could be completely wrong here )

If you are trying to use the left key to back out try to instead use the "Done with channel setup" Another way to do pretty much the same thing. Also, have you tried using the WinTV program that comes with the capture card? That should tell you if everything is working before it gets to Sage.

Just a sidenote on the STB serial control... There's an app listed on the forums made for motorola boxes. I used to use it when I had an apartment w/ Charter cable. Worked really well w/ their models. If you search for DTC2000 I think you'll find the file and setup info.

I did use the hwclear utility. Windows recognizes the card just fine also. I also uninstalled sage and reinstalled it but it brings me to the same point with the same results. I downloaded a different PVR software package and it recognizes both tuners exactly like Sage and it works fine. I still like Sages features better though so I really want to get it working.

OK... I decided that I was going to order a HR so returned the 1600. I connected my STB to the PVR-150 but can't get channels over 99. They are just snow. Any ideas?

How is the STB hooked up to the PVR-150, Coax, s-video, composite?

I don't see how the output from the STB would go to snow above 99, unless you aren't subscribed to 100+. Are you sure you aren't trying to have Sage have the PVR-150 use its internal tuner to tune in the channels?

Basically, if hooked up the STB to the PVR via Coax, you tell sage to tune channel 3 on the PVR, and then Have Sage controll the STB itself. Same for s-video or composite, YOu tell Sage to have the PVR just record the content coming in from the STB on the s-vid/composite, and then set up Sage to control the STB via IRblasting, serial, or Firewire control.

I originally had coax going from the STB to the card. I changed it to the composite and then got all the CH's. The coax connection said TO VCR so I assumed it was just another feed but I guess it wasn't the "digital" channels? So as ke6guj suggested it was probably just a pass-thru and I was using the 150's tuner. Who knows, but now it's working. The IR Blaster has my STB on the list so I assume it will work but I can't test it till sometime later.

Thanks to all for the help.
