Playback Error

After upgrading to the 6.1.9, I get the following error when I try to play an MP3 on the MVP:

There was an error in playback. Details: sage.PlaybackException: Error(-3,0,x0): There was a problem accessing the filesystem for playback.

It also occurs when I try to play back imported videos. When I attempt to play back one of those files, the sagetv service goes nuts on the server. It pegs the CPU for about 10 seconds or so. After that 10 seconds is when I get the error on the MVP. However, live-tv and recorded tv files play back fine.

Note: I don't use network paths. I also reconfigured the service to log in under my username, since it seems to change that every time you install a new version of Sage.

I'm really at a loss right now. Playback works fine on the server, a client and a placeshifter client. The only thing it doesn't work on is the MVP.

Sounds like a file permission issue. Is the login a local administrator?

You may also want to try changing the MPEG2 Audio Decoder Filter setting and Audio Renderer setting under Detailed Setup...Video/Audio. I don't think this is the problem but it doesn't hurt to try. It may be the permission exception is just a manifestation of another problem, like the decoder going out to lunch.

Yeah, I think it sounds like a file permission thing as well. But, I checked the permissions on the folder, and even gave everyone full control. Besides, its only the Media Extender that has problems. My server, client and Placeshifter client can all play the music.

Besides, I don't use network shares, so I assume only the Sage service needs access to that folder. The service is logged in under an admin account.

As I said, the issue is only on the MVP, so there are no decoder/renderer settings to play with.

Check with SageTV tech support. The Placeshifter & MVP clients are both remote clients, so if the file can be accessed for PS playback, then the MVP should be able to also, I would think. Maybe there is something about the format of those files.

Does it work if you don't use service mode?

You should probably enable debug logging in sage.properties to see what the server's log has about the problems.

The playback problem starting happening after upgrading to Sage v6.1.9. Imported music and videos worked prior to this, now none of them work (on the MVP, that is).

I haven't tried running it out of service mode. I'll try that when I get home tonight.

I still have debug logging on from when I was having the music library issues. I looked through it, but I can't find anything that looks out of the ordinary in it. Is there anything in particular that you think I should look for?

By accident I think I fixed the problem. The MVP was hanging on startup, and I thought it was just the MVP, so I unplugged it to let it refresh its memory. It turns out the Sage server had crashed, but once I restarted Sage, music playback on the MVP worked!

I really should have guessed that. I've ran into issues before with the MVP after server upgrades that I resolved after unplugging the MVP for a while.
