Why such a long delay? when stoping playback.

I would like to better understand what is happening 'behind the scenes' when I stop playback of an SD or HD recording. When I stop playback I get the spinning wheel and a pause of up to 10 seconds. It is a bit longer with HD files (both .ts and mpg), but SD files do it as well.

Any ideas what is happening and how I can shorten the delay?

I did notice that when I stop the DVD Player form playing it stops IMMEDIATELY, which is nice.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Sage 6.1.9, Java 1.6, NV PureVideo (most recent release), AC3 Filter...

Do you not have this type of delay? or should I get used to it?

Thanks for your interest and help!

.. and which renderer (also compare the codecs and renderer for DVD with that for Video files -- there may be a difference...)

I am at work (can you tell?) right now, so I can take a closer look at that tonight. I will check the settings in the too, but right now I know I am using Nvidia PureVideo and VMR9 for rendering TV.

Do you have any suggestions on what specifically I should look for?

Also, do you think it might have anything to do with the 7600GT and it's drivers? I hope not...

No I don't have that kind of a delay. Maybe a second. To be honest, I rarely watch tv from my server (all my viewing is done on my clients). I would agree with Neilm's assessment that I would compare to how you have your DVD and TV setups. SDTV shouldn't be any worse than DVD. HD might be a bit slower only because of the higher stress on your system, but even then a 10 second wait is not right.

How much ram is in your rig? Could you be maxed out?

Actually, it is not only Live TV, but also recordings. And it happens in SD and HD, but a bit longer with HD.

I have 2 GIGs RAM in the box...

Might it have somethign to do with write caching for the IDE hard drive? I currently have it set to cache...

Well... I took a look at the log and there were a lot ATHTHREAD (I think I am remembering that right) comments while the wait was occuring. I did a test with a recording of Nemo I got of ABC-HD a week or so ago and it took 32 seconds for the recordings list to come back after hitting stop. Same thing with three other recordings. Then... I checked the Java settings...

I noticed in on of the tabs ("Java") two buttons, one for Java Applet & and one Application Runtime Settings. When I entered the Application Runtime settings I saw that I could enable/disable different versions. I saw that I had version 1.5 and 1.6 and that 1.5 was disabled.

Then I remembered I disabled it trying to troubleshoot something else weeks ago! I enabled it and... FIXED.

The delay is now 1-2 seconds if not immediate.

Sweet...
