HD directv reciever that works with serial control???

I currently have a standard def reciever in the family room but this also is used for the sage pc. We are upgrading to an hdtv and so I need an HD reciever but I also need it to work with the sage serial control. Has anyone found a unit that works?

I have asked this question on the forum before and gotten no replies either. I can tell you the Patterson tech http://www.patersontech.com/ has a usb device that will work with the DirecTv H20-100 and H20-600 receivers. I have sent them an e-mail asking if it will work with SageTv version 6, but I have not yet received a reply from them. If it will not then I don't think there is any way other than IR blaster control of an HD direcTv receiver. If you find something that works let us know. Also, you know of course that you will not be able to record in HD.You will get a better quality picture than from an SD reciever just not HD.

I use 4 TV Translator 3s with Sage. Just not on the H20. You get a 45 day return period with them. You should try one out.

That someone may be me as I am going to purchase one if I can get Patterson to tell me they think it will work.

My point though is that SageTV doesn't have different DLLs for DirecTV. So Paterson says they support the H20, it should work. Plus you get 45 days.

According to the compatibility tab on that link above, it says this about the H20

H20-600 Yes Any Requires putting the USB TV Translator into H20 Mode.
HR20-700 Yes 0x134 Receiver must be reset after installing the USB TV Translator.

I just got an e-mail from Patterson saying their USB device will work with the H20 and SageTv just like the D10 device does. I have not purchased an H20 yet so that was why I wanted to make sure the Patterson device would work before I did. I want to set it up on my Sage server so I at least can record widescreen and in better 480 that with a regular SD receiver.

If this is the case, these adapters become pretty expensive. They end up costing over $50 per box. Thats pretty hefty

I use the Paterson cable (connect that USB end to the satellite box) and Belkin USB-to-serial adapter to convert other end back to USB and connect to the PC. I have used them on D12 receivers and now I am using them with H21's. Expensive? I have 3 of them, a server, and client PCs. It's a very small percentage of the overall investment.

I am in the process of switching from mce to sage. so far I added extra storage, purchased sage licenses added a client pc and two placeshifters and an hd100 extender. Still need to purchase 4 more hd extenders and possibly 4 patersontech adapters.

it adds up quick. I guess this is why we love this hobby.

Bafo serial to usb

Hi,

I am using a bafo usb to serial cable and the software called directv.exe from the GBPVR project.

There is no need at all for the Paterson connector.

I have been successful with 2 Directv receivers using this approach. HR20-100 and HD_HTL, There is a nice read me in the GBPVR WIKI about how to implement this. I simply put the DIRECTV.EXE program into my sage dir and then set it up using the EXETuner plugin for sage.

Good luck
