STB Channel Changing (no remote)

I am considering switching from Comcast (no STB) to Verizon FIOS (with STB) and have a basic question about changing channels on the STB. From what I understand, using a remote, a USB-UIRT and software, I could change channels on the STB. My question is, if I'm sitting at the computer (or using Placeshifter at another location) is it possible to change the channel without the use of a remote? If I use the SageTV software (no remote), is it possible to change the channel on the STB?

Yes -- using a remote to control the SageTV UI and having SageTV change the channel via an IR blaster are two separate actions. SageTV can change the channel when it needs to do so for a scheduled recording, which requires no user input at the time it needs to happen. Similarly, it doesn't matter whether you use a remote, keyboard, or mouse to change the channel during live TV viewing. SageTV changes the channel on a tuner, when it needs to do so, based on how control of the tuner was setup when the source was configured.
