Suggestion.....it's fall again

Andy,

Every year since I"ve owned Sage, come fall season I hate the fact that I cannot search for the term "Season Premiere."

Even in the unsupported Extras, which has a special menu for "Series Premiere", there's no way to search just to see when my favorite shows start up again.

I have tried to search by all fields but it never finds Season Premiere, even though you can look on many show's descriptions and see it, it just doesn't seem to be searchable.

Can we please either add the ability to search everything in the description or make some kind of flag to search by that?

I agree Malore. I never worry about when the shows start up because I rarely watch them when they start up (in fact most of the time I wait for a couple of weeks and watch several episodes in a row). That is why I have 650GB of storage space on my Sage Server.

I too thought that having a DVR meant that I didn't have to worry about when a new season started. However, I learned the hard way that a favorite created during one season doesn't necessarily convey to another season.

As an example, I missed a couple episodes of Survivor a few years ago. I had set Survivor as a favorite, which created an entry for "Survivor: Panama" (or whatever it was). Only after I missed a few episodes of the next season did I realize that I had to create a keyword entry for just "Survivor" to get it recorded every year.

I know this doesn't apply to most shows, but it's annoying nonetheless.

I (the one that wrote the request) also agree that's why I have Sage.....

But..... I also would like to be able to search to know WHEN the new shows are coming. Yes, I see I can do it on the internet but I have this wonderful Sage system that can do everything from recording shows, to looking up movie show times, to showing caller ID from the telephone to showing live weather radar to buring DVDs to skipping commericals (well, you get the point).

I just want to select something on the menu that shows me when the words "Season Premiere" are part of the description :-)

Of course, on family vacations I also sat in the back of the car saying "are we there yet?" every 30 seconds just to drive my father crazy.

But seriously, Sage can litterally search for EVERYTHING else, why not Season Premiere."

I agree that it seems like a bug that "Search All Fields" ignores that field. In which case your best move would be to use the bug report form.

The ones in bold are getting displayed in the SageMC "Premieres" view (12 days lookahead). Since it is based on your code, I assume it will be the same in your Menus... Not too bad I would say

I looked into this earlier today -- it looks like the STV should already be able to search for that info when searching all fields, but the search isn't returning any matches. I'll let you know when I know more about it.

More info: the short story is that it isn't a field that can be searched on the Search menu. The detailed info screen says an airing is a "Season/Series/etc Premiere", but that isn't actually in the database as text that can be searched.

technically, it isn't a bug; it is just the way the data is stored. You can't search for "HDTV" & a few other things either.

I can't yet say whether it will ever have a filter/marker/search method for it or not. Even if there will be, I'm just about 99.99% sure there won't be any change for this in v6.2, though.

Not right now... as I mentioned here earlier, that menu displays "Series Premieres", not any other type of premiere. I can post an updated test STV a little later, but for now that post has a note about how to change it using Studio.

Ah ok, since SageMC is indeed displaying the Season premieres of MAD TV, Prison Break, etc I assumed that it should be the same in the Malore menus. But I just checked, and you're right it doesn't show them, so the code must have diverged at some point...

If you use the malore menus & are interested in having a listing of premieres & finales, then check out the test STV here & let me know how it works in that thread.

You can choose to view various types of premieres & finales along with an option to include other types of specials.

Hi JUC,

the filter button on the 'Schedule' page cycles through 'All', 'Conflicts', and 'Premieres'. You can set the lookahead for premiere shows in the SageMC settings.
