Way to stream audio only of program

I sometimes have problems viewing video streams at work with placeshifter and due in large part to the restricted upstream bandwidth at the server(my apt) the video quality can be rather poor.

For some things, especially sports events I would like to have the option of streaming only the audio from the recording which I would think could save some significant bandwidth and prevent the occasional breakups I have during playback.

Maybe a toggle switch that could turn and off video stream.

Anyway, just a thought and I'm curious if others would like a feature like this.

I'd be interested in this too.

You could do this with the streaming in Nielm's webserver. You would just need a profile for VLC to only use the audio portion.

I thought that webserver would have something like this, I'll check that out. I still think it would be a rather simple matter of incorporating this into placeshifter though.

Can you, or anyone else, provide any additional tips on this?

I assume that it might be something that I could change in here:

mode=vlc&vc=mp4v&vb=512&ac=mp3&ab=96&scale=0.5&mux=ts&deint=1

from the custom transcode section of the www plugin. Anyone know what setting/flag I'd modify to turnoff the video portion of the stream?

thanks
Matt

VLC supports a command line option of novideo.

So maybe:

Code:
mode=vlc&novideo&ac=mp3&ab=96&scale=0.5&mux=ts
You can even drop the bit rate on the audio down to something like 32. I don't know if this works, but it should be on the right track.
