any reliable ways to room-shift premium live HDTV ?

I am trying to be able to view the occasional live HD sporting event in the home theater room, and it's not worth getting a second digital box just for that. If I weren't a Bengals fan, I might pony up, but I figure with their current level of service it is not worth the extra $7/month. Besides, I have a few years of them Rebuilding to figure out the live HD thing.

Since there is are other more watchable sporting events, like Monday Night Football, and apparently baseball playoffs on TBS-HD, I want to use the theater room, but sage server and client cannot reliably tune the live channels. All I can do is get the channel to change on the box, but then all hell breaks loose. Recording works a little, but I haven't messed with it much. VLC can tune any channel I want, including my neighbor's on-demand porn as I learned the hard way, so I know I have the firewire setup correctly

Is there any way to maybe set up VLC on the client box to connect to the server, which has the firewire hookup to my motorola 6416 (time warner), thus bypassing sage?

How about r5000? Is it any better at live tuning of premium hd channels?

See firewirethread about sticking an old cheap mac in the middle to make things yummy. I can roomshift Premium HD all day flawlessly..
