Nvidia Purevideo & Slower lagging delay when pressing ff rew skip button

I'm on the 30 day trial of Purevideo. I see my CPU being utilized much less than the Sage default decoder so I guess that is good. However, using quick skip to move forward or backward in the show introduces a "lag" effect to Sage that wasn't there before. With the default Sage decoder the screen would "flip" 120 seconds in the future or past immediately, as fast as I could push the button. Now, the audio keeps up but the video lags when skipping forward or backward in a show. I can push the skip button 3 times or more before the video actually syncs back up with the audio. Otherwise, the video just stays on screen in the former position of the show.

Any ideas on how to make Purevideo more responsive?

PS: I was hoping for a better looking screen using Purevideo but I'm not seeing any difference on my 50" Sony KDF-50E2000. Like I said, Purevideo, as a whole, uses significantly less processor (as it should) but I'm wondering if it is worth it since the viewing experience is more frustrating with the ff/rewind lag/delay. I must be missing something.

TIA for any responses.

Purevideo acts the same way for me in regards to the video lagging for a moment during a ff/rew. I think it has to do with the fact that the decoder is hardware-assisted, so it takes a moment for the video card to get back in sync.

Thanks for the quick reply. Kind of frustrating when you are trying to skip to the end of the ads or beginning of the next show segment, and have a few seconds pause while it syncs back up. Anyone know of a way to make it work faster or optimize more?

Also, should have I expected to see a color or quality improvement using Purevideo? Sure, it uses less CPU, but I was hoping for more than that. It is a dedicated box anyway.

Mine operates the same too, in addition to some other problems related to the Nvidia drivers I've been trying to work out. I don't really notice it much because I have commercial skip running.

As for quality improvements, that has as much to do with the video card and drivers as well as the TV and your connection style as it does with the decoder.

Remember SD television is only going to look so good on an HD tv. Otherwise it's how the hardware and drivers work to create the television signal.

I noticed a slightly better image (though barely) when moving from my VGA connection on my DLP to the DVI/HDMI connection. I woudn't regret moving back if I needed the HDMI port for something else but it is a little cleaner.

ATI has usually been rated as having better image quality than nVidia, though the nVidia decoders/drivers usually do a better job with video decoding according to the reviews I've seen (check out the video archives at www.anandtech.com).

Personally I'm either going with a HD extender when they come out, or an ATI card in my next HTPC once I relagate my current setup to a MS Home Server next year. The 7600 in my gaming rig runs well and gives no problems but the 6200 in my HTPC (which replaced an old ATI card) has just been troublesome.

I'm already doing HDMI, so that is probably why then.
