Just a couple of points to clarify:

I can appreciate that, but discussions involve interaction. Up until your last few posts, it seemed as if you were simply ignoring other posts in an effort to be provocative (hence my accusation of trolling).

You're not right if you think, that the server-client concept is reduced on ethernet.
You can also speak about server and client in a usb connection.

But you're right that lan would be better than usb.
I don't think any of us specified what sort of network is involved in order to have a server-client relationship; LAN, WAN, Internet, USB, serial, whatever. It's still a networking relationship where two "computers" are sharing information. I even attempted to extend the definition to a "sneaker-net", the most primitive of networks, where information is physically carried from one machine to another. Even in that most liberal of definitions, the device you mentioned might qualify as a client, but certainly not a "thin" one.

I thought that the data and controls would be transmitted live to the docking station (by a kind of wireless). But it seems that the data is only stored on the stick and you have to transfer it manually.
This excludes live streaming.

Sorry!
That's what people have been telling you in numerous posts, but you keep stubbornly ignore to read up on what an extender/thin client is about and how it works, specifically with SageTV.

Since I suppose I'm free to joke in this topic, I just have to say...

As far as I know the current extender is booting linux from an image tftped from the server basically possesing a VNC client. It is truely a thin client, utterly worthless by itself.

The new extender may well have enough nuts to run java, if so in theory it could manage it's own interface. Really though I prefer the way it is now, everything configured from the server on the server. The MVP loses it's mind when it loses power. I wish the Windows client had this as an optional configuration.

One thing I hadn't mentioned before that would be very cool is full IR support and an emitter port to turn on/off the connected TV. I kinda doubt the emitter port but hopefully more then 45 total IR codes would be nice.

Doesn't the MVP understand almost any IR code?

You may be onto something as you can map commands through an MVP, unfortunately that means this is a limitation of SageTV. As you still basically can control only the MVP interface plus a couple of unused buttons.

I really thought you could just go into the Learn Commands menu and learn from an arbitrary remote. I've never tried it because the included one is sufficient for my needs. Unless I'm totally missunderstanding what you mean.

Not really -- the MVP can only handle RC5 type codes. While there are a lot more than 45 codes in that protocol (4096, I think), it isn't a universal IR receiver.

I think you're partially right. I'm pretty sure the MVP can only recognize RC5 codes.

Edit: Dang it. Andy beat me to the punch again.

Anyone catch the new Syabus HD media player that just came out. I wonder if this isn't the box that Sage will end up using. No idea, just speculating based on what has been said already.

It could be. The specs look good, remote looks nice also, and the unit looks quite small too.

its too bad that none of the extenders that I seen in this thread and others support DDplus ( EAC3 ) I guess 1536kbs bandwidth is just a bit too much for audio.....

its a shame

If so, I hope they give us some sort of status update instead of simply letting the supposed ship date pass by without any comment.

FWIW, it looks like the MCE extenders are getting rolled out on schedule, so hopefully the Syabas delay isn't affecting everything.
