Writers Strike. Is your Sage worried...

Just wanted to see what your feelings were about the *possible* lack of fresh TV in the near future...

Isn't that what all those terabytes of archived shows are for?

One word: Netflix. Lots of shows that I missed the first time around have been released on DVD. Hopefully the writers can't "un-write" those!

I've got enough of a back log of netflix'ed TV shows/recordings I haven't watched that I can fill my own primetime scedule until the WGA wins their fight (I'm rooting for them).

Another 5 month strike (like in 88) would certainly allow me to clear out lots of shows that I recorded, but just haven't gotten around to watching.

It's so easy to record shows, and space is so cheap, that I record anything that looks even remotely interesting. Guess I'll have a chance to watch them now.

Agree, Netflix. I try and watch all the new shows and catch the hits. But admit I miss shows that are now considered hits, use Netflix to catch up.

I absolutely hate to watch out of order. So ER, which is no where near caught up on DVD releases, does not get watched by me anymore. For Boston Legal last year I missed 1 episode, so I waited until it came out on DVD. Now all caught up in order.

Except for shows that are shot daily, it appears that it will take until January for shows to run out of new episodes.

January is true. I have read several articles on this subject. You will start to see a lot of news and reality shows to take their place.

Also needed consideration is the domino effect. If it lasts more that a few weeks, networks will consider having specific shows end the season early. Heroes is one of them that may end Dec 3. And say if it is resolved by years end, writers get back to writing but then the scripts need approval plus shooting time. There will be some delay if it does not get resolved by the beginning of December.

Daily shows have started going into reruns today.
SNL is effectively shut down.

For those curious about how many episodes to expect from a particular show, I've found a fairly detailed list

Thanks for the link malore. I'm sad to see that Pushing Daisies only has nine episodes in the pot. It's the first new show that I've gotten into in a while. I already miss The Daily Show. I can't imagine going without it for 5+ months.

But I have to concur with everyone else. My netflix queue is sitting at 135 and I have tons of recorded shows to catch up on.

Just like evilpenguin said, I side with the writers and am willing to sacrifice new shows to ensure they are properly compensated for their work.

When needed, I'm planning on upping my netflix subscription from 2 to 3 at a time and watching "Always Sunny in Philly", "Heroes" season 1 (i'm currently recording and not watching #2), and most of season 1 of "Friday Night Lights", I've seen some.

I might finally get around to watching the last couple of seasons of "Six Feet Under", and the 4th season of "Entourage".

Theres really plenty to watch out there.

While I usually think "stikers" are being big babies, I think I'm on the WGA's side. Writers get almost no royalties on DVD/video sales which is because when that part of their contract was written it was 1985, and TV on video was small-tme and VHS was costly to manufacture, times have changed now. They also get nothing at all from "new media" ie itunes etc.

Last season, and even this season. I've noticed it takes a couple of weeks, but the new episodes show up pretty quickly on Netflix! I was impressed.

Here's another version of this list, arranged by the number of episodes in the can. No more new Office <sigh>
