DVB-T recording quality

I was wondering whether someone could explain how recording quality works for DVB-T transmissions.

I have two nova-t 500 digital cards in my PC (4 tuners in total).

If I am recording say channel BBC1 on DVB-T (UK), can't I just record it at the quality it is transmitted at - I don't see a setting for this.

I don't see the point in specifying DVD quality when it isn't transmitted in that quality. Likewise if I specify a lower level I might downgrade the video actually being transmitted. AFAIK the UK DVB-T channels can be transmitted at different bit rates depending on the MUX and program content so it seems to be difficult to specify an accurate quality setting?

I must confess to being a bit confused on this aspect, so any clarification on how this works would be appreciated

The recording quality settings are there for analogue recordings, via a pvr card.

The digital channels are already in mpeg format and are just copied straight to the hard drive, so the setting is ignored for those.

It is confusing isn't it.

I see now that I don't need to worry about those settings for my particular setup
